TAJIKISTAN UK Trade Mission 15 – 18 April 2013 Organised by the British Embassy in Dushanbe
Multi-sector trade mission visiting the capital city of Dushanbe for a high level programme of meetings with Government, Donors and the Private Sector
Tajikistan has a population of 7.73 million, and its GDP of $903 per capita is the lowest of any former Soviet republic. 46.7% of the population live below the official poverty line. In development terms it is an early transition country with significant reform and investment needs in the financial services, corporate regulation, infrastructure, power and agriculture sectors.
Donors are however committed to working with the Government to improve the economic and business environment. Some $450m in development aid was known to be committed in 2011. These loans and grants are therefore funding projects which will be substantively fairly procured, and for many UK companies will provide the best short-term business opportunities.
