Nutrition Policy Rationale

Haig School is committed to supporting and building healthy lifestyles and habits with our students. Healthy eating habits are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being. Our school shares the responsibility with our home and community partners in educating children on the need for healthy, nutritious food.

This policy is to ensure that all decisions involving any food/drink made available to students at Haig School will be made in the best interests of our students. These decisions shall adhere to the guidelines as outlined by: SECPSD Administrative Procedure 165: Nutrition Canada’s Food Guide Nourishing Minds: Eat Well, Learn Well, Live Well Healthy Eating, Nutrition and Food Safety Guidelines for Saskatchewan Schools

Procedures:

1. Haig School Nutrition Committee will include members of Haig School Staff and School Community Council. This committee will provide guidance regarding the nutritional offerings and will develop the annual action plan for the school. This plan will be shared with our home and community partners annually.

2. The choice of foods offered, sold and served in our school, and at any school approved event shall adhere to the guidelines as indicated above, and will be reasonably priced.

3. Haig School will adhere to Public Health Food Safety Standards.

4. The policy and its guidelines apply to the following:  fundraising  sporting events  school celebrations  school snacks  hot lunches
