MATHEMATICS-7

ESSENTIAL UNIT 1 (E01)

(Number Concepts) (July 2013)

Unit Statement: In this unit the student will explore number sense and place value. This unit will cover the concepts of even and odd, writing numbers in different forms, and counting patterns. The student will apply the key terms and develop problem-solving skills.

Essential Outcomes: (must be assessed for mastery) Problem solving and higher order thinking components are essential for ‘A’ level mastery. Each TSW can contain problem solving and higher order thinking components (as found in suggested text).

1. The Student Will classify numbers up to 20 as even or odd. (Go Math! 2 1.1)*

2. TSW write equations to represent even numbers by showing equal amounts. (1.2)

3. TSW describe the values of digits in 2-digit numbers with place value. (1.3)

4. TSW read and write numbers to 1000 using expanded form. (1.4)

5. TSW read and write numbers to 1,000 using base-ten numerals and number names. (1.5)

6. TSW show the different values of numbers using models and place value. (1.6)

7. TSW solve problems by finding different combinations of tens and ones to represent 2-digit numbers using patterns.(1.7)

8. TSW count patterns within 100 and 1,000. (1.8, 1.9)

*Suggested Go Math! chapter sections to use with TSW’s

Introduced and Practiced Outcomes: (taught but not assessed)

1. The Student Will engage in critical mathematical thinking and problem solving.

2. TSW discuss the unit concepts using the key terms.

3. TSW engage in daily calendar activities

Key Terms and Concepts:

Digits odd count back even tens ones count on
