Equipment Program Training Beds and Bed Equipment Series

The series includes the following Sessions:  Session 1 - Assessing and Prescribing Adjustable Beds  Session 2 - Entrapment, bed rails and bed sticks (theory)  Session 3 - Assessing Entrapment Zones with Standardised Tool

The Beds and Bed Equipment Series focuses on the assessment and prescription of beds, and considers associated risks involved in the provision of a bed and bed equipment.

Risk of injury and entrapment from bed equipment such as bed rails and bed sticks is an issue which must be considered in the assessment and provision process. This training provides theory and practical learning opportunities to understand how to assess and mitigate risk for your clients.

Session 1 - Assessing and Prescribing Adjustable Beds Formerly Titled - "Pressure Injury Prevention Series Session 3 - Prescribing an Electric Bed"  Bed component parts, accessories & configurations  Initial Considerations when considering an adjustable bed  purpose/aim of provision of a bed  Initial Assessment  Risks associated with bed prescription  Bed Features and Accessories and adjustments of these

Session 2 - Entrapment, bed rails and bed sticks (theory)  Overview of beds and bed equipment  Bed sticks and clinical considerations  Bed rails and clinical considerations  Entrapment and assessing risk

Session 3 - Assessing Entrapment Zones with Standardised Tool  A hands-on training session  Learning to use the standardised tool to support the assessment of a bed system for compliance with entrapment zone requirements  Identifying possible solutions for non-compliant bed systems

Pre-requisites Session 1 must be attended, or knowledge and skills demonstrated via an RPL process in order to attend sessions 2 and 3. RPL documentation is available on the Equipment Program Team Site Session 2 must be attended in order to attend session3.
