Rogers-Herr PTA Executive Board Meeting Minutes Monday, January 14, 2008 – 5:00 PM – Media Center

Topic Discussion President’s Report  Will have a sign outside school to promote PTA membership. Michelle will need an update on membership numbers from Robert soon.  Parent/Dad basketball games on hold for now. Did not have good participation per Rob Lamme. Julia will remind him to let parents know that the games are not being held. Jamai needs to get with him on career night possibilities.  The intramural basketball league for students is not a PTA program but the wellness committee is helping find volunteers (still need coaches). Program needs to go through the school for insurance purposes. Assessments are Jan 16 and expect 3 teams to be formed. Practices will be Wednesdays with games on Friday evenings.  Next Walk to School day is March 12.  Student government has raised concerns about food choices available in the cafeteria to the wellness committee.  Schools to Watch visit did not end up needing PTA funds. Teacher Appreciation  Plans to provide something quarterly and have done 2 so far.  Would like to provide something for early release dates – either lunch or a heavy snack. Only conflict is with the April date since it is close to teacher appreciation week in May. Site Based Decision Making  January 31 at 6:00 or 6:30 is a possible date for the David Stein program. Considering having a panel discussion and perhaps provide food. Looks ok in terms of PTA calendar. Julia will ask Drew about possible other conflicts.  DCRI (a cancer research firm) is interested in setting up a program to do science projects with students.  SBDMC voted for draft #2 of the 2009-2010 year round calendar. This draft had a longer than normal Winter break.  February 29 is due date for student applications to magnet & year-round schools. Applications available in the office. Choice fair is at Hillside January 26 10:00am – 2:00pm. Drew may be contacting parents to attend & help answer questions about RH. February 28 is RH open house for prospective students.  High school night sponsored by career dev for outgoing 8th graders will be January 28 at 6:30.  RH is 2nd in district on proficiency on benchmarks for algebra (96%) and geometry (100%). Treasure’s Report  Balance as of December 31, 2007 $14,448.70.  Pretty much on track with budget. Will have a lot of items to spend on at end of year. Have questions on testing supplies item for Dov.  We are supposed to receive $500 from J&H Fundraising since had extra fundraiser (8th grade cookie dough sale). Plan to split the $500 with 8th grade. We could get another $500 to split with another group if they chose J&H for their fundraising.  Athletics line item - $600 went towards cheerleader uniforms. New Business  Per Darleene – would like PTA to work with students and/or teachers on “greening” our school. Perhaps could have a competition for students to generate ideas on water conservation or other green topics.  Boxtops and other collected items can be sent in at any time to your child’s social studies teacher.  Questions on the next dine out night. Ideas include Golden Corral, Chic-Fil-A, or a create your own dinner place like Dream Dinners or Entrée Vous. Next board meeting Monday, February 11 @ 5:00 PM at Rogers-Herr
