Cub Scouts “Extra” Awards
In addition to Rank Advancement Awards and Electives, and the Academics and Sports Program, Cub Scouts may also earn “extra” awards.
This listing is intended to give Pack Leaders an idea of what is involved in earning these awards. Some may be earned while attending regular Pack Activities, but most will need to be planned for. Some may also not be available at Twin Cities Scout Shops, due to slowly phasing out the award.
Religious Each faith has its own requirements for earning its Emblems particular emblem.
(Knots & Ribbon Pins) This award may be earned by all registered Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Scouts. Knot may be worn by youth and adults who earned the emblem as a youth member, above left pocket.
Recruiter Strip There are NO formal requirements for these strips. Each Unit establishes the procedure for awarding the strip. (Patch) Usually, a Recruiter Strip is awarded to a Cub Scout or Boy Scout the first time he is successful in getting a friend, relative, classmate, or other acquaintance to join his unit. Typically, only ONE strip is awarded to a boy while he is a Cub Scout. Cub Scouts wear this strip below the right pocket on their uniform.

Summertime A pack can qualify for the National Summertime Pack Pack Award Award certificate and streamer by planning and conducting three pack activities, one each in June, July, and August. This award can be an incentive for greater (Pin) attendance at your summer pack activities.
Keep track of the % of Scouts at each event, to make sure the More information Unit qualifies! This is a neat little gold pin that everyone may wear on their uniform pocket lapel.
Cub Scout World Wolf, Bears, and Webelos Scouts may earn this award by Conservation earning the Forester, Naturalist, and Outdoorsman Award activity badges and taking part in a den or pack conservation project.

Cub Scouting's Leave No Trace is a plan that helps people take better Leave No Trace care of the environment and protect it for future Awareness Award generations. Cub Scouts and their leaders may earn this award. (Patch) Control + click to see the requirements. “Frontcountry” means around home, not off camping where there are no facilities. This is a cool award. When done right, it instills a M ore I nformation lasting love for the outdoors and keeping open space clean. Conservation The Conservation Good Turn is an opportunity for Cub Good Turn Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Varsity Scout teams, and Venturing crews to join with conservation or (Patch) environmental organizations (federal, state, local, or private) to carry out a conservation Good Turn in their home communities. Award Application This award can be earned by going to a local City Park (meet with city employees to learn what is needed first), or to a State Park, or to the DNR, to learn more about conservation and what doing a “Good Turn” means (not necessarily just a one- time visit...). This can also be the first kernel of awareness about BSA Unit Service Projects, and Eagle Scout Projects.
Conservation Good Turn for Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts Cub Scouting conservation projects may involve the entire Cub Scout pack, each den, adult leaders, and family members. Hands-on projects help Scouts realize that everyone can do things to care for the environment. Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts participating in the Conservation Good Turn can also meet some advancement requirements. Suggested projects include, but are not limited to: Plant grasses, trees, shrubs, and ground cover to stop soil erosion. As a den or pack, adopt a park. Remove litter from a favorite neighborhood recreation area or park. Organize or participate in a recycling program in your neighborhood, or visit a recycling center. Arrange a natural resources awareness program. Invite natural resource professionals such as wildlife biologists, soil conservationists, foresters, or conservation officers to speak to your pack. Participate in a beach or waterfront cleanup. Record the items collected and determine the possible harmful effects to wildlife. With youth participation, develop a plan to educate the public about the dangers posed to wildlife. From a local, state, or national organization that is concerned about environmental protection, obtain suggestions for den and pack projects to improve the environment.
As a den or pack, visit a public utility to learn about the wise use of resources, and become involved in programs offered by utilities to help consumers conserve resources.
Fort Snelling The Fort Snelling Historic Trail is located in the City of Historic Trail Minneapolis in Minnehaha Falls Park, the Minnesota Fort Snelling State Park, and along the Mississippi River. (Patch) The Trail is intended to familiarize hikers with the important history of early Minnesota exploration by Europeans and the US Army. Award Requirements This would be a great warm weather Day Trip. It’s always fun to visit Fort Snelling, perhaps on a day when the “soldiers” are doing some drills...!! It would also fulfill some of the requirements for the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award.
L’Etoile du Nord - Historic journey through downtown Saint Paul, Trail of the North Minnesota. Star This would be a great warm weather Day Trip!! It would also fulfill some of the requirements for the Cub Scout Outdoor (Patch) Activity Award. This was originally an Eagle Scout Service Project. It might be a bit challenging for younger Cub Scouts, Award Requirements but Webelos could tackle it. Please check for availability on the buildings’ visiting hours. Set up a time at the State Capitol for the very great free guided tour.
Lark on the This award is earned on the Monarch Trail at Elm Creek Monarch Park Reserve in. The Trail is self-guided. Best to go in mid-late summer so Award Requirements they can see some adults and caterpillars in different instars, maybe even a chrysalis or two. They begin their migration in September so... This would also fulfill some requirements for the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award!! Webelos Did you earn all of the Webelos Activity Pins? If you did, Super Achiever you're a Webelos Super Achiever! To earn this award, Award you must earn all 20 activity pins while you are a 1st and 2nd year Webelos Scout. You can obtain this award at your local Scout Shop. (Patch)
Interpreter Strip Boys and adults may wear this strip if they show their knowledge of a foreign language or the sign language for the hearing impaired by: (Individual Aaward 1. Carrying on a five-minute conversation in this Patch) language. 2. Translating a two-minute speech or address. 3. Writing a letter in the language. (Does not apply for sign language.) 4. Translating 200 words from the written word.
Cub Scouts may earn this (individually) if they speak a second language at home, or attend a language immersion school. The strip is worn near the name plate area above the right pocket. The form is found on Council website: > Resources > Forms (alpha order) > Interpreter Strip.
Crime Prevention The Boy Scouts of America’s Crime Prevention Program Program assists neighborhoods and communities in their efforts to prevent crime. William T. William T. Hornaday Awards are presented for Hornaday distinguished service in natural resource conversation. Award (unit) Unit award judging is performed by the local area BSA Requirements council. Registered Cub Scouting packs are eligible for the award. A unit may either be nominated or apply to their local BSA council for recognition. The unit must plan and carry out at least one environmental/ conservation project. At least 60 percent of the registered members in the unit must participant. Units must complete the Hornaday Unit Award forms and submit them to the local council. The forms are available at the BSA Website.
