AP Psychology: My Child Development Book Developmental Psychology
Child Development may seem overwhelming due to the numerous theories and theorists. However, one factor that makes it much easier to comprehend –the fact that we have all experienced it! As a culminating activity to the developmental psychology unit, you will synthesize the information about physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth and development. You will apply this information to your own life and how you have developed.
You will need to organize this information around a motif (thematic element in a work of art; a dominant idea or central theme).
Motifs might include (but are not limited to) the following: clothes (diaper, sleeper...) hats drink containers (baby toys bottle, sippy cup...) books hair styles hobbies/interests shoes (booties, walking wheels (stroller, walker, shoes...) tricycle)
You may use original art, magazine pictures, computer-generated art, or photographs to represent your theme.
1. Your book should have an attractive cover that includes a title, author, date and period.
2. Your book should be clearly divided into a minimum of 5-6 separate chapters that represent the different stages of development. The main stages to address are: infancy (0-12 months), toddlerhood (1-3 years), preschool/kindergarten (3-6 years), elementary school, middle school and high school.
3. Each chapter should have: a. Has an attractive title that states the stage of development (e.g. Infancy: Birth to 12 Months) b. Typical milestones of development that occur during this stage for physical, social/emotional, cognitive and moral development. This may be a bulleted list. (Include a minimum of 4 milestones for each stage) c. Major psychology concepts & terminology specific to the stage. d. 8 examples of how you developed during this stage (2 per area of development) e. 2-3 examples of how you developed that support a particular theory or concept of this stage(Piaget, Eriksen, etc.) f. Your motif relating to you in that stage g. For added effect you may wish to quote your parents or include personal pictures. Assessment
