CAS Senate Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

March 24, 2017, 3 PM in UCB 307

CAS SEC Members in attendance: Chris Lauer (Chair), Susan Brown (CAS Dean),Mazen Hamad (Secretary), Yoshiko Fukushima, Michael Peterson, Doug Mikkelson, Ken Hon, Katherine Young, Margary Martin

1. Previous CAS Senate Executive Meeting Minutes

a. Edits were made to March 10, 2017 SEC minutes.

b. Edited minutes from March 10, 2017 SEC Meeting minutes were approved by a vote of 5-0-0.

2. Regorganization survey

a. The CAS reorganization is currently available and will remain open until Tuesday, April 4th. Faculty and staff should be encouraged to fill out the survey.

3. CAS All Senate Meeting

a. The CAS All Senate meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 7 at 2 PM. The meeting will be held in W1 if that room is available.

b. The main agenda item will be to present results from the reorganization survey.

c. An update on the CRC’s work will also be given

d. The CAS Chair will invite an UHPA representative to attend, as faculty may have questions about UHPA’s role in the reorganization process.

e. An UHHSA representative will also be invited since the reorganization is likely to affect UHH students.

4. Who will be Chair, Vice Chair (if any), and Secretary of the CAS SEC next year? There were no nominations for these positions.

5. The question about asking the Chancellor for a formal role for the CAS SEC Interim Dean search and permanent Dean search was withdrawn because the Chancellor sent out an email that adequately described these processes.

6. Reorganization petition

a. A faculty member sent a draft petition to the CAS Chair.

b. The CAS SEC considered sponsoring the petition but decided that it would be better if the petition was developed and handled by UHHSA.
