HONORS COLLEGE

The Leslie Geraldine Sherman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory and in honor of Leslie Sherman, a History and International studies major who died during the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007. A junior in the Honors College and member of the Main Campbell Honors Community, Leslie was an inspiration, a young woman who could literally "do it all" and excel. For Leslie, her hometown of Springfield, VA, was a base from which to explore the world. She loved photography, visiting historical sites and museums—particularly those relating to early American history—reading, running, and traveling throughout the United States (Seattle was a favorite location) and around the world. She made two trips to Argentina and one to Ecuador that she paid for herself with money she had earned and saved. She also traveled to Jamaica and London. Her next area of study was to be Russia; she planned to learn the language and culture.

Application Guidelines To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate student in the Honors College majoring in History or International Studies (or both). Winners will be selected based on their academic work while at Virginia Tech. Non-winners and winners are welcome to apply again in subsequent semesters. Special attention will be given to applicants looking to fund a study abroad experience.

The Leslie Geraldine Sherman Memorial Scholarship offers $1,000. The application is open in both the fall and spring semesters.
