CHAPTER 29 World War II and Its Aftermath 1931-1955 pp 923-961 MONDAY Daily  Appreciate the Changing of the Seasons 28 March Objectives Daily  SPRING BREAK, NO SCHOOL Learning Plan TUESDAY Daily  Describe the reasons for the final defeat of the Nazis 29 March Objectives  Summarize how the allies began to push back the Japanese in the Pacific.  Explain the American strategy for ending the war in Japan and the consequences of that strategy. Daily  Review the day’s objectives. Learning  Review what was learned last Thursday about how the allies turned the tide of the war. Plan  Preview section review questions two-through four on page 951.  Review the homework from Monday, have several students share the obituaries they wrote in class.  Share several completed presentations from class members of the Fantasy Draft assignment.  Chapter TWENTY-NINE Section FOUR Victory in Europe and the Pacific, pages 948-952  Focus on how the Allies finally defeated the Axis powers in WWII, and the decision to drop not one but two nuclear weapons on Japan.  ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: CROSS THE ROOM—students will engage in a RESPECTFUL debate, deciding whether they feel the use of nuclear weapons to defeat Japan in World War two was or was not justified. Students opposing their use will form on one side of the room, as students supporting their use will assemble on the other side. As opinions change during the expression of ideas, students will cross the room to the side with which they agree.  Answer questions two-through four in the daily writes. WEDNESDAY Daily  Describe the issues faced by the Allies after World War II ended. 30 March Objectives  Summarize the organization of the United Nations.  Analyze how new conflicts developed among the former allies after World War II. Daily  Review the day’s objectives. Learning  Review what was learned yesterday about victory in the Pacific. Plan  Review several of the student Power Point presentations from Tuesday.  Review Chapter Twenty-nine Section Five Victory in Europe and the Pacific, pages 952-956  ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Students will create a one-question quiz about what they felt was the single most important thing to know about World War II and use the mingle-to-the-music strategy WORLD HISTORY Week of: 28-31 March 2016 WPHS Learning Plan to quiz each other.  Focus on the issues that arose in the aftermath of World War II and how new tensions developed.  Pages 952-956  Answer questions two-through four in the daily writes. THURSDAY Daily  Analyze the key players of World War II 31 March Objectives  Compare and contrast events, people, and outcomes of World War II  Create a persuasive essay describing what five people you would pick to run your country during World War II  Produce a PowerPoint presentation about the five people they picked. Daily Overview Learning Plan Students will be given the task of selecting five key people from World War II to create a Fantasy Draft. Students will select five people they think would be the best drafts to run their fictional country during the World War II period. In class, students will create a Google Slides presentation which provides the specified information.

Description

1. Students will be in charge of selecting FIVE (5—no more, no less) leaders from the World War II time frame to run the country of their choice. Students may choose from the following leaders: Churchill, Eisenhower, Hirohito, Hitler, Montgomery, Mussolini, Patton, Rommel, Roosevelt, Stalin, Tojo. If students wish to use any other WWII personality not listed here, permission must first be obtained from the instructor. 2. Students, using written and electronic resources, will research the five people they selected to run their country during the World War II time frame. Students will cite the sources used in creating the presentation in a bibliography in the last slide. 3. Once all of the research has been compiled students will create a PowerPoint presentation about the five leaders they selected. In the presentation, each leader selected will have his own biography slide: depicting why he was important, key accomplishments toward the war effort, and why that person was selected by the student. 4. Student volunteers will show their Power Point presentations to the class on Thursday.
