Article 5, Chapter 1, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is 28 amended by adding: 29 30 “Section 591497. (A) A public school of this State may 31 develop a policy that requires a person who waits in a motor 32 vehicle with an idling engine to deactivate the engine while 33 dropping off or picking up a student from school property. If a 34 school develops a policy, it must post a sign clearly visible from 35 the place designated by the school for students to be dropped off or 36 picked up that contains the words ‘TURN OFF YOUR CAR 37 ENGINE WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR STUDENT’ in black, 38 oneinch tall uppercase type in the middle of the sign and centered 39 between the lateral edges of the sign. 40 (B) A person who violates the provisions of this section is 41 guilty of a nonmoving traffic violation and may be issued a fine of 42 no more than ten dollars by a sworn officer of the State. Monies
