Subject: Minutes For The Workshop On Self Assessment Process of Faculty of Oriental Learning

A one day workshop on Self Assessment Process was held on 16th October, 2012 on the request of Faculty of Oriental Learning at the Dean’s Committee Room of Faculty of Oriental Learning, University of the Punjab, Lahore.

2. The following faculty members from Oriental College attended the meeting:-

1) Dr. Nusrat Yasmin Nisar (Incharge, Department of Kashmir Studies) 2) Prof. Dr. Syed Muhammad Qamar Ali (Department of Arabic) 3) Mrs. Shabnam Riaz (Incharge, Department of Hindi) 4) Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Farid (Department of Persian) 5) Dr. Muhammad Sabir (Department of Persian) 6) Dr. Najam ur Rashid (Department of Persian) 7) Dr. Naveed Shahzad (Department of Punjabi) 8) Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar (Department of Urdu) 9) Mrs. Arifa Shahzad (Department of Urdu)

3. During the inaugural speech, Director QEC, Prof Dr. Aamir Ijaz briefed the participants about the importance of Self Assessment Report (SAR). He informed that although the implementation of the Self Assessment process has taken roots but continuous input is required to fully achieve the objectives of strengthening the internal quality assurance process. He elaborated that focus of this workshop is to discuss ways of preparing SAR during the planning, execution, evaluation and also follow up stages of this important component of internal quality assurance. Director QEC presented a power point presentation for following contents:-

Summary of suggestions / decisions that resulted from the detailed discussion for the preparation of self assessment report. a) Departments under Oriental College should submit their Self Assessment Reports by the end of December, 2012 to Quality Enhancement Cell. b) Departments are at their liberty to change the questions of survey forms according to their system of examinations without disturbing the theme. c) Best timing to conduct teachers & courses evaluations are normally at the end of year/semester. d) Departments should conduct surveys of those students whose class attendance is 80% or above. e) In case of teacher evaluations, summary is to be shared with HOD and Dean of the Faculty. Results may be conveyed to the concerned teacher by the HOD. This information may also be used at the time of consideration for best teacher award etc. f) In case of adverse report, a personal interview by Dean/HOD with the faculty/relevant member (s) is suggested. Appropriate measures like counseling, participation in professional development courses etc. may be recommended to the Vice Chancellor. Majority of the participants agreed to implement this important activity at their concerned departments under Faculty of Oriental Learning. Meeting ended with the vote of thanks by the participants to the Director QEC.
