VITAE ______

CURRENT POSITIONS:

Translator (German or Swiss-German -to- English) – Parttime from 1981-to-present

 Started taking German courses at the University of Kansas in 1973-1974.  Married my Swiss husband, Peter Luginbuehl, in December, 1973 and moved to Switzerland in June, 1974. Resided in several German-speaking counties (Kantons) of Switzerland for 10 years.  Continued to take German courses the first three years in Switzerland while speaking Swiss-German and German to all of my husband’s family and our friends. Became fluent in German and Swiss-German.  Worked for one year as a nanny in a German family with six children. The mother was from Berlin and the father from Switzerland, so they spoke high-German with me and their children. I frequently read German storybooks to their younger children, and later to my own three children born in Switzerland.  Graduated from a two year German home economics school (Hauswirtschaftsschule) in 1980 and then trained 16-year old students in home economics and child development (in German and Swiss-German) for three years.  Translated German-to-English advertising brochures and catalogs for Karrer, Weber, & Co. (KWC), the leading water faucet manufacturer in Switzerland from 1981-1984. I assisted the KWC marketing team in exhibiting their faucets at the National Kitchen & Bath Trade Shows in Dallas and Orlando in 1982 and 1983.  My husband and I returned to the USA in August, 1984, first living in Florida and now Wyoming. I obtained my Master’s, Educational Specialist, and Doctorate Degrees in School and Pediatric Psychology, but I continued to correspond with friends and relatives in German throughout the years.  During this time living in the USA, I have translated a variety of materials from German-to-English for Peter Luginbuehl, President of Accurate Translations. These translations included psychological reports, birth, graduation, and marriage certificates, family letters, genealogical records and journals, marketing brochures & catalogs, legal and health documents, and I have assisted my husband with larger marketing projects such as translating the 200-page SieMatic Kitchen Cabinet Book with products. For this project, I did half of the translation and the entire final proof-reading and editing before the catalog went to press. Here are the comments by the SieMatic-America CEO about my husband and I’s work on this project:

“I enjoyed working with you and appreciate the extra effort that you have made to accommodate our extremely tight timeline. The result is going to be the best English version of the SieMatic Kitchen Book ever! I am glad we have established this relationship and I look forward to more translations with you in the future. Thank you very much”! Rolf Willers, CEO, SieMatic Moebelwerke USA, Feasterville, PA.

 Over the years, I have honed my professional English writing skills by producing many high quality research papers, a Master’s thesis on gifted assessment and its’ impact on self-esteem, and a Ph.D. dissertation on screening for sleep disorders in children. My dissertation won the American Psychological Association’s (APA) 2003 Dissertation of the Year Award for its high quality, collaboration with leading professionals in the fields of psychology, sleep medicine, and education, and the development and validation of a sleep screening inventory for students that is not only used nationwide, but also in a variety of English and Spanish-speaking countries internationally. Since 2003, I have published numerous research articles in professional journals and book chapters (see publications at the end of this Vitae). I have also written approximately 1,800 psychological reports throughout my career as a school and pediatric psychologist, and I am known for my professional writing skills.
