INGRAM 12 OF CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL FOR BEING SELECTED AS 13 THE NATIONAL HISTORY DAY TEACHER OF THE YEAR 14 FOR 2001-2002 AND TO WISH HER GOOD HEALTH AND 15 HAPPINESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS. 16 17 Whereas, Gail B. Ingram, a teacher at Cheraw High School, 18 received the Richard T. Farrell Teacher of Merit Award for being 19 selected as the National History Day Teacher of the Year for 20 2001-2002, at a national awards ceremony held at the University of 21 Maryland; and 22 23 Whereas, this prestigious award is given to one teacher in the 24 United States for outstanding success in teaching history; and 25 26 Whereas, Ms. Ingram was recognized for her dedication to the 27 National History Day program and for her success at improving 28 history education at Cheraw High School; and 29 30 Whereas, National History Day is a year-long critically acclaimed 31 education program that encourages young people to explore 32 historical topics related to an annual theme; and 33 34 Whereas, students compete in the district and then the state 35 competition and the winners go on to the National History Day 36 Competition. Ms. Ingram’s students have earned district, state, 37 and even several national awards in the competition; and 38 39 Whereas, for the past seven years, Gail B. Ingram and art teacher, 40 Jennifer Rayfield, have helped their students create a Black 41 History Month exhibit at the Cheraw Parks and Recreation art 42 gallery; and
1 [5218] 1 1 2 Whereas, they have received a total of sixty thousand dollars in 3 grants from the South Carolina State Department of Education to 4 create the exhibits, and in October 2001, they earned a Dorothy 5 Mullen Arts & Humanities Award from the National Recreation 6 and Parks Association from the town of Cheraw; and 7 8 Whereas, Ms. Ingram has also twice received an award from the J. 9 William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the United 10 States Department of Education to participate in the 11 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program. Her first trip in 1998 12 was to Japan, and this summer she will spend six weeks in 13 Thailand and Vietnam; and 14 15 Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to recognize Gail B. 16 Ingram for her creativity in the classroom and her commitment to 17 education. Now, therefore, 18 19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 20 concurring: 21 22 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 23 Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Gail B. 24 Ingram of Cheraw High School for being selected as the National 25 History Day Teacher of the Year for 2001-2002 and wish her good 26 health and happiness in her future endeavors. 27 28 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 29 Gail B.
