Kirsh, Anthony, Coleman, Delleney, Funderburk, Gullick, Jennings, Lucas, Moss, 10 Mulvaney, Neilson, Simrill and Vick 11 Document Path: l:\council\bills\ms\7298ahb07.doc 12 Companion/Similar bill(s): 737 13 14 Introduced in the House on May 3, 2007 15 Adopted by the House on May 3, 2007 16 17 Summary: Olde English District Tourism Commission 18 19 20 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 21 22 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 23 5/3/2007 House Introduced and adopted HJ-131 24 25 26 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 27 28 5/3/2007 29 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO COMMEND THE OLDE ENGLISH DISTRICT TOURISM 12 COMMISSION AND RECOGNIZE ITS TWENTY-FIVE YEAR 13 COMMITMENT TO PROMOTING TOURISM AND HISTORY 14 IN CHESTER, CHESTERFIELD, FAIRFIELD, KERSHAW, 15 LANCASTER, UNION, AND YORK COUNTIES WHICH 16 GREATLY CONTRIBUTES TO MAKING TOURISM THE 17 NUMBER ONE INDUSTRY IN THE STATE. 18 19 Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission was 20 established on May 10, 1982, by the South Carolina General 21 Assembly for the purpose of instituting and operating programs to 22 improve, increase, and otherwise enhance tourism, recreation, and 23 development in the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, 24 Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York; and 25 26 Whereas, the commission’s worthy goal is to work toward 27 establishing the Olde English District as a major center of tourism 28 and recreation through promoting its many attractions of interest 29 with a Visitor’s Guide and niche market brochures highlighting the 30 African-American historical sites, civil war sites, artists’ studios, 31 antiquing, and genealogy of the area; and 32 33 Whereas, the commission enhances the profile of the district by 34 working with writers from all over the country who write stories 35 on the district’s attractions. They work diligently to present the 36 district that encompasses these seven counties as a wonderful and 37 educational destination for individuals, families, schools, and other 38 groups; and 39 40 Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission has also 41 been a trailblazer in promoting Revolutionary War history in the 42 district. Through the leadership of the commission, the Carolina’s
1 [4032] 1 1 Backcountry Revolutionary War Trail was developed and will be 2 preserved for future generations benefiting all South Carolinians; 3 and 4 5 Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South 6 Carolina House of Representatives pause to recognize the Olde 7 English District Tourism Commission on the occasion of its 8 twenty-fifth anniversary and to honor the commission’s rich legacy 9 of bringing visitors and new opportunities to this historic, scenic, 10 and largely rural region of the State. Now, therefore, 11 12 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 13 14 That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of 15 South Carolina, by this resolution, commend the Olde English 16 District Tourism Commission and recognize its twenty-five year 17 commitment to promoting tourism and history in Chester, 18 Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York 19 counties which greatly contributes to making tourism the number 20 one industry in the State. 21 22 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 23 the Olde English District Tourism Commission. 24 ----XX---- 25
