Cedar Heights Elementary PTO Meeting Minutes September 14, 2009

 Opening/Pledge of Allegiance- Sherie Murphy (pledge led by Student Council and Safety Patrol members in attendance)  Approval of May PTO minutes Motion to accept: 1. Diane Warner 2. Julie Boring  Treasurer’s Report- Amy Walker . Opening Balance- $6,345.70 . Current Balance- $2,592.25 . See report for details Motion to accept: 1. Jane Root 2. Julie Boring  Principal’s Report . Shirlee Estell spoke about the responsibilities and projects of the Student Council. She introduced the Student Council officers and grade level representatives in attendance: Jessica Murphy-President, Drew Jones- Treasurer, Masey Elick- Secretary, Zebediah Armstrong- Mrs. Ward’s class, Ellen Kalb- Mrs. Root’s class, Allison Taley- Mrs. Tracey’s class, Kindra Fannin- Mrs. Gerkin’s class. $200 was approved for student council luncheons. Motion to accept: 1. Sheryl Gerkin 2. Julie Boring . Sheryl Gerkin spoke about the responsibilities of the Safety Patrol. There are 37 members this year, the most we have ever had! Those in attendance were Drew Jones, Bailey Nutter, Megan Michael, Kindra Fannin, and Zebediah Armstrong. $300 was approved for safety patrol treats. Motion to accept: 1. Shirlee Estell 2. Diane Warner . Moses Garcia spoke about the Cedar Community Learning Center. It is in its third year of operation and doing very well. . Constitution Day is this Thursday, September 17. Activities will be done in the classroom. . Cedar Heights continues to recognize students who follow above the line expectations with the Hornet Award. . Third graders will be taking the OAT Reading test on October 6. The IOWA CogAT test will be given September 21-25. . Dr. Sheets shared the Cedar Heights Report Card for the 2008-2009 School Year. Cedar Heights met 7 out of 10 indicators and had a performance index of 96.3. These achievements put the building at an “Effective” designation. We are just a few points away from becoming an “Excellent” building! Our free and reduced lunch population has increased to 64.6% over the past school year. . Cedar Heights had several summer projects take place including a new ceiling and lighting in the primary wing, new floor in CD room and Music room, new blacktop, Mrs. Winters Summer Reading Program, the Summer Reading Program, and the Summer Lunch Program. Becky Tener is the Market Day Coordinator this year. Holly Gilbert and Beth Hammer are the new Co-Volunteer Coordinators. Student Council will sponsor Spirit Days this year. September- Hat Day, October- Crazy Hair Day, November- Career Day, January- Slipper Day, February- Mismatch Day, March- Sports Day, April- Twin Day, May- Opposite Day. Lindsey Badgeley is our full time Social Worker. We have several new staff members this year: Jenni Weinfurtner, Brian Dorion, Tyler Young, Carissa Bull, Courtney Bennett, Kate Rogers, Kari Bolin, Susan Rooker.  Old Business . Cedar Celebration had a great turn out. We served 300 hot dogs. . PTO purchased two, large, orange beverage jugs to be used throughout the year for PTO events. . The 2009-2010 PTO calendar was created over the summer and will be sent home with each Cedar Heights student this year. It will also be accessible through the school website.  New Business . Subway Rewards cards can now be logged in at the subway website for Cedar Heights to redeem points from the purchases to be used towards items for the school at the end of the year. Information will go out in next month’s newsletter. . Fall Fundraiser orders are due this Thursday, September 17. The PTO will be purchasing flowers for Dr. Callihan’s retirement. $100 was approved for the purchase of the flowers. Motion to accept: 1. Julie Boring 2.
