Monday, February 29 Did you know that today (Monday) is LEAP DAY, a day that happens only once every 4 years. There's a leap year for every year that is divisible by four, except for years that are both divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400. Did you also know that on February 29th, it's acceptable for a woman to propose to a man, and the man cannot refuse to marry her? Also, there is an official Honor Society of Leap Year Babies, which has more than 10,000 members worldwide. In celebration of Leap Day, the Competition Math Club is conducting it's QUADRENNIAL Leap Day Party after school in Room 182. All members are invited to attend. And as always, new members are welcome. National History Day Club is meeting every day this week. The next Actor's Workshop meeting will be tomorrow (Tuesday) after school in the cafeteria. The first is to talk about anything you've read that you've loved. Books, websites, messages on bathroom stalls - anything. The second thing we're going to do is dress up! Think of a fictional character you'd like to be and spend Wednesday in costume. If it's from a book, comic, short story or fanfiction, then it's good to go! We'll see what you can dream up on Wednesday! 7th Grade Baseball players, please check the list outside of Mr. Brock's room to see your first try out date starting March 1st. And then there were four! The Final Four teams have been set for the Quiz Bowl playoffs. Our next round of action will be Thursday after school in room 152. Two more teams are going home to set up our championship. The Grotesque Bird Heads, the Monokumas, the Bunny Burgade, and Team Carlos are all hanging out in this battle for brain supremacy. Come cheer on the players in these final rounds. We've got an author coming! If you'd like an opportunity to come see Amy Ignatow, author of the Popularity Papers, on Friday you'll need a permission slip. There will be two presentations; one will be periods 1 and 2, then another periods 3 and 4. Pick one and come to the library for a permission slip, which will act as your ticket to the event. Students Helping Students is working with HMS and collecting books until Friday. Donated books will be sent to Philadelphia schools that need them. Please bequeath your bound bounty to the biblioteca. The first day of practice for the girls' track team will take place on Wednesday, March 9th, right after school All runners and throwers should meet the coaches outside of the HMS wrestling room right after changing for practice.
