MAURY COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

MINUTES Special Called Session June 22, 2009 5:40 p.m. Horace O. Porter School at College Hill

I. CALL TO ORDER

Immediately following a Zoning and Facilities Committee Meeting Chair Daniels called the meeting to order. The Pledge was said in unison, after which a moment of silence was observed. The following members were present: Jim Morrison, Talvin Barner, Loretta Goodloe, Daniel McCulley, Tommy Dudley, Shaw Daniels, Jerry Lassiter, Steve Kindler, Joe Foster and James Pennings. Rob Burcham was absent. The Director asked that we keep Woodard Principal Bonnie Rodgers in our prayers as she recuperates from surgery.

II. ADOPT AGENDA Upon a motion by Mr. Kindler, seconded by Mr. Foster, Board approved the Agenda.

III. OTHER BUSINESS Zoning and Facilities Committee Chair Daniel McCulley presented the following items reviewed at the earlier Zoning and Facilities Committee Meeting:  Committee Chair McCulley, on behalf of the Committee’s unanimous recommendation motioned for acceptance of Blalock Plumbing, Electric & HVAC - Bid No. 09-050 - Restroom Upgrades (Riverside Elementary, Hampshire Unit, Santa Fe Unit and Mt. Pleasant High Schools) in the amount of $41,000.00 with additional funds in Fund 177 Capital Outlay (Santa Fe ($723.00), Mt. Pleasant ($4,525.00)Hampshire ($1,431.00) 06-07 Major Maintenance – Riverside ($2,221.00)07-08 Major Maintenance). Motion carried.  Committee Chair McCulley, on behalf of the Committee’s unanimous recommendation motioned for acceptance of Brown Elementary School - HVAC Replacement – budget amount of $442,656.00 ($85,969.00 from 07-08 Major Maintenance and $356,687.00 from 08-09 Major Maintenance). Motion carried to proceed and move forward with design.  Committee Chair McCulley, on behalf of the Committee’s 4-1 recommendation motioned for acceptance of Saliba Construction Company’s Bid No. 09-058 - Addition to Administrative Offices (Central High) in the amount of $29,490.00 with additional funds of $1,525.00 from Fund 177-Capital Outlay 07-08 Major Maintenance. Motion carried with Mr. Barner voting no.  Committee Chair McCulley, on behalf of the Committee’s 3-2 recommendation motioned for acceptance of Fisher Carpet Center, Inc. Bid No. 09-011 - Central Office Flooring in the amount of $25,055.00 with additional funds of $55.00 from Fund 177-Capital Outlay-07-08 Major Maintenance. Motion carried with Mr. Barner voting no.  Committee Chair McCulley, on behalf of the Committee’s 4-1 recommendation to bring 2 applicants (SSOE, Inc. and Kaatz, Binkley, Jones & Morris) on Bid No. 09-052 – Request for Proposals – Architectural Services to the full Board for approval carried. After discussion and upon a motion to begin contractual negotiations with SSOE, Inc. by Mr. McCulley, seconded by Mr. Kindler, Board approved the selection of SSOE, Inc. to provide architectural services for Maury County Public Schools with Mr. Dudley, Mr. Lassiter and Mr. Barner voting no.  Capital Projects Report including Architect’s Report, Project Cost Report, Major Maintenance Projects-Current Requests, and Capital Improvement Projects-Current Requests were provided to Board Members for their information and discussion.

IV. ADJOURN The Director urged everyone to attend the County Commission Meeting scheduled for Thursday June 25, 2009 at 4:30 pm at which time the school budget will be addressed. Upon a motion by Mr. Kindler, seconded by Mr. Foster, Chair Daniels adjourned the meeting at 6:00 p.m.
