Initial Meetings: Getting to know each other Communication Goals and Expectations – frequency, methods, alternate contact information, good/bad times, etc. Roles and Responsibilities – what will each of you give/get from the relationship? Who takes lead on agenda setting, communication, and follow--‐up? What expertise, time commitment, and resources will each of you provide? Homework – do you want to establish a mentoring journal or discussing a book, publication, article, website, etc. as part of the process? What is reasonable for both parties? Mentee Background Information – resume, mentoring goal, hometown, current home city, etc. Mentor Background – Personal and professional background interests, resume, life lessons, etc. Get to know you questions: Describe your ideal manager. Who are your role models and why? What are you best at/think you are good at?

Ongoing Meetings: Professional Development, Industry Topics Professional Communications – resume review, email and cover letter writing, networking skills. Industry Knowledge and Topics – is there a good industry newsletter/website (other than PRSA-NCC.org) that the mentee should be reading? An informative blog, website or book they should read? A speaker or industry leader they should listen to or research? What current events should the mentee be paying attention to about their industry? Social Media – What tools to use and how to use them appropriately? Brainstorm Careers in Your Field – What options are out there for your mentee? What Positions is the mentee interested in? Hands‐on Experiences – Invite your mentee to your office or business, have them participate In a meeting, project or field activity if you think it would be helpful. . Later Stage: Reviewing Goals, Prepare, Connect, Action and Feedback Revisit and Refine Goals – develop or revise goals for future sessions, reassess plans based on any experience, job changes, etc. Action Items – What do you need to do to get you to your goals? How can your mentor help? Prepare and Connect – Research companies/organizations or individuals you want to meet with, talk to your mentor about insights into specific companies/industries. Feedback – Discuss the time you’ve spent with your mentor, ask for feedback and what you could do better, what you did well.
