STUDENT Date May 2013 Assessment Task Family Periodic Table: 1. Locate 10 elements in your house. They can be from any part of the periodic table. 2. Create a “trading card” for each element and organize them into your own periodic table (no larger than a ½ cardboard sheet). 3. Each “trading card” must include the following: Name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, number of neutrons, electrons and protons, how and why the element is used in your house and how to use it safely and effectively. Criterion and Assessment Rubrics Criterion A: Scientific Issues This criterion measures how well you report on scientific problems in the community. Level descriptor S T 0 The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below. 1-2 The student cites examples and makes some comments on the ways in which elements are applied and used to address a specific problem or issues The student makes comments on the effectiveness of elements and their application in solving problems or issues The student cites examples on how the elements and their applications interact with at least one of the following factors: moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural and environmental. 3-4 The student gives examples and makes comments on the ways in which elements are applied and used to address a specific problem or issues The student makes comments on the effectiveness of elements and their application in solving problems or issues The student makes comments on how elements and their application interact with some of the following factors: moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural and environmental. 5-6 The student describes the effectiveness of elements and its application in solving problems or issues The student describes the ways in which elements are applied and used to address specific problems or issues The student describes how elements and their application interact with some of the following factors: moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural and environmental.
