The following guidelines are in place to help us represent the H-H community abroad: In addition to H-H Student/Parent Handbook, but not limited to, the following rules apply:
Music players or video games are allowed on the bus. Earphones are required. No backpacks or large purses are necessary. Bring what you need but travel light. All electronic devices must be turned off for the performances (2:00-5 PM).
The busses have minimal security, so don’t bring “anything” if you will be upset “it” will get stolen, lost, or damaged. Appropriate Dress:
Because you will be attending a modern theatrical performance, and are touring one of the busiest cities in the world, we respectfully ask that you enjoy “business casual” comfortable clothes with sturdy walking shoes. Pavement is dense. It’s tough to walk all day on concrete. Be sensible in your appearance.
“No Butts or Bellies” You will not be allowed on the bus if your clothes are too revealing- especially for the guys! No one in NYC will be impressed with pierced belly buttons, tattoos, ripped biceps, or underwear showing. If in doubt, wear something more conservative (but comfy).
Clean and Ironed- “Modest” shirts or blouses encouraged (no advertisements or slogans, avoid “hoodies”) Appropriate Pants/Slacks (avoid skirts) – Clean and neat. . Tights/leggings are NOT replacements for pants. Cover up!
Sneakers/laced shoes/sturdy buckles with rubber soles recommended (no platform shoes, no flip-flops, no open-toed shoes, no dramatic prom heels, avoid brand-new-not-broken in shoes… blister city!!!). Remember NYC is fast, large, and sometimes a dusty (ok that’s an understatement) place. You don’t want parts of what people leave behind on the streets of NYC in between your toes (Yuck!!!) Recommended:
Appropriate clothing layers. Check in with NYC weather the day before the trip. April could be cool or it could be warm. It could be sunny, or Spring rains may be the forecast. Average high 60, low 45 F. People with long hair might consider hats or hair ties. Cityscapes are known for howling winds. Hats are to be removed in the theater.
Buddy system- no one goes anywhere alone. Period. Travel in groups. Plan on traveling in groups. Enjoy the city with someone you may not have known well in cast or crew. Include each other. Have lots of FUN.
***A pre-planned itinerary with ideas, locations, and prices of where to visit. Use Google or Yelp or Trip Advisor. Have an clue what you’d like to do with your free time.
Misc (not required): If camera is on a cell phone be sensitive to the “bling-like” covers that might draw unwanted attention. Additional $$$ for food, souvenirs, etc. Snacks for the bus ride. Autograph books in case actors/actresses of Pippin meet students. TBD:
Student Workshops and Talks with Cast are sometimes offered. We will know about 2 weeks before if this is a possibility and might extend the return time about 1hr later. No extra student cost will occur.
1 week before the trip students will receive a “reminder” of “do’s and don’ts” and a small map of midtown NYC. Emergency contact information of chaperoning adults (cell phones) will be included.
