Candidate background checking It is critical that people who work for NZTA are honest and trustworthy. In this application form you are asked to tell us about any health issues you have suffered in the past, for example, a medical or physical condition (including OOS or gradual process injury) that may affect your ability to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position. The NZTA has a key role in promoting road safety and staff are expected to set a good example to other road users so we also ask about any convictions that you have had. A criminal or traffic conviction will not necessarily exclude you from appointment, except that it is our policy not to appoint people who have had a conviction under the Land Transport Act 1998 for reckless or dangerous driving, careless driving resulting in loss of licence or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you are the preferred appointee we will want to undertake further background checks including referee checks, criminal conviction check, driver licence check and health check. Please note that minor convictions may be concealed under the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004. If you want to know more about what this means for you, check the Ministry of Justice website www.justice.govt.nz. For some positions we will also want to check on such matters as bankruptcy and tertiary qualifications. The checks that are relevant for this position are listed later on this application form and we ask for your written authority to undertake these checks if you are the preferred candidate. Offers of appointment are conditional on the satisfactory completion of the checks. Any issues arising from the checks will be discussed with you and if they cannot be resolved satisfactorily, the conditional offer or contract of employment may be terminated. Sometimes these checks may not be completed until after commencing work with NZTA. If you have any queries about our background checking process, please contact the Recruitment Administrator.
