JOE SPRANGERS at home working on his soccer skills. 2370520BD Sport Waikato CEO Matthew Cooper rates Joe Sprangers’ appointment as Development Manager for Waikato Football Club as a win for both parties. “While I’m sorry to see him leave Sport Waikato, I’m thrilled for him personally,” says Cooper. “Joe has done a marvellous job in his role as SportsForce Development Offi cer for the sport of Touch. “He has always been meticulous in the delivery aspect of his role, as well as showing real strength in building external relationships.” Sprangers has been looking at advancement into management and has put in a lot of effort to up-skill in this area. He has gone from a delivery-based position at Sport Waikato to a sports management role - moving up in the sports business. But he is far from giving up on Touch. “I just want to keep my Touch involvement fun, not a 24/7 job.” He retains his roles on the Touch New Zealand board, Waikato Touch committee and assistant coach of this year’s Waikato open women’s team. Spranger took up the fulltime role at Waikato FC last Monday. He will be running just about everything for the franchise, other than coaching the third best side in last year’s national league. “I’m in it for the challenge,” he says. “I want to make sure Waikato FC have a competitive team on the pitch and build towards becoming the best football franchise in the country.” Sprangers takes over the reigns from Waikato FC chairman Keith Ward, who did the job on a part-time basis last season. It was Ward who, in fact, decided to ‘professionally advance the club’ by employing Sprangers to do it full time. Sprangers will work closely with Ward and team captain Che Bunce, who re-signed with the side last week after turning down an offer from 237TC012-05 Auckland City.
