Dear Business Owners and Landlords

As you are well aware the beach front especially the sidewalks of Victoria Road are harbouring some very unsavoury characters that are harassing both our residents and tourists.

The restaurants are paying a premium to be here and unfortunately the environment that we are operating in seems to have very little law enforcement or management dealing with the issues.

Being the head of the Business forum, I receive daily complaints by both patrons and residents and fellow business owners and landlords about the state of the beach front and pleas asking for help and for a solution.

We need to try and do our bit to take pressure off the limited resources that are currently supplied to Camps bay to help police the area.

The Business Forum and some local residents and property owners have come up with a potential solution and it may need a four-pronged approached consisting of the following:

1) Paid for security monitoring the streets 24 hours a day 7 days a week 2) Trying to get paid for parking on the beach front 3) Restaurants and guesthouses/ hotels and residents educating their patrons that handouts don’t help the situation and that supporting places like Multi culture centre and the Homestead or the Haven are far better ways to help 4) Getting social workers to help reintegrate some of the homeless back into their communities and helping them get on their own two feet

The 1st option is something we want to implement immediately and similar areas like and have put steps in place to help curb the same influx that they are experiencing. We have got a quote from a private security Company that would only monitor the beach front from The Pump House until Theatre on the Bay and the road round the back of the promenade where Codfather and Dizzy’s are. This would be two Guards on shift at all times patrolling by foot and having a back up response vehicle in case of an emergency. For further information on the security please feel free to contact me on 0836298736

We need to secure R900 000 for 5 months that we would need to contract the company for from November until end of March.

If you are interested in the initiative and are happy to make a pledge please put it on your letterhead stating the amount of funds you are willing to commit to the Camps bay beach front clean up.

I will follow up your pledge with an invoice that would need to be paid in full on presentation.

I must let you know that this would be our short-term focus with the long term being a more sustainable model based on setting up a Special ratings Area otherwise known as a CID. This is however only foreseeable at the earliest next summer season.

Kind regards
