STUDENT SHOWCASE: 100% STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT DIPLOMA EXAMS

Twice a year, the Board of Trustees recognizes outstanding student achievement in Rocky View Schools by acknowledging students who obtain a perfect mark of 100 per cent on a provincial diploma exam. Congratulations to the following students for their accomplishments on the June 2019 exam sitting:

Brady Church, Cochrane High School Math 30-1 Brady isn’t a stranger to success – he was recognized at the board table last year for achieving 100 per cent on the Chemistry 30 Diploma Exam. Paying attention in class, taking good review notes and getting a good night’s sleep helped him to obtain a perfect score on his Math 30-1 Diploma Exam in June. Brady is studying engineering at the University of British Columbia.

Chloe Heck, Cochrane High School Biology 30 This isn’t the first time Chloe has stood before the Board of Trustees! In November 2018, she was recognized for her perfect score on the Math 30-1 Diploma Exam. Today, Chloe is being acknowledged for her achievement on the Biology 30 Diploma Exam. She credits her success to completing her course work on time, reviewing sample diploma questions and being self-motivated. Chloe is a first-year student at the University of British Columbia and hopes to pursue a degree in science with a focus on microbiology or zoology.

Makenna Kuzyk, Cochrane High School Biology 30 Makenna’s recipe for success in obtaining a perfect score on the Biology 30 Diploma Exam was simple – attend class, take concise notes and study hard! In her spare time, Makenna enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, participating in fitness activities and reading. While at Cochrane High, she was a member of the Leadership Club and volunteered her time to Feed the Hungry. With aspirations to work for NASA, Makenna is majoring in engineering at the University of Alberta.

Minghao Li, Springbank Community High School Math 30-1 Minghao’s meticulous attention to detail and sheer determination helped her to achieve 100 per cent on the Math 30-1 Diploma Exam. When she’s not studying, Minghao enjoys reading and playing chess, piano and ping-pong. She also volunteers for Reads at Children’s Reading House. Minghao plans on attending either the University of Toronto or the University of British Columbia to pursue a degree in engineering.

JT Luterbach, Bert Church High School Chemistry 30 A competitive hockey player and active member of the Global Sport Academy, JT works hard to achieve success both on and off the ice. His ability to effectively balance sports and academics led to his achievement of 100 per cent on the Chemistry 30 Diploma Exam. A kind and patient individual, JT is a natural leader who helps his classmates whenever possible. Off the ice, JT enjoys playing baseball and spending time with friends. He is undecided as to where he will pursue post-secondary studies, but knows that whatever path he takes, he will always aim to make a positive impact on those around him.

Kyle Middleditch, Bert Church High School Biology 30 Kyle’s intrinsic curiosity, coupled with his perseverance to find the right answer, led to a perfect score on the Biology 30 Diploma Exam, and a near-perfect score on the Chemistry 30 Diploma Exam. Kyle is never satisfied with a cursory explanation and is genuinely interested in learning more! His love of all things science led him to compete in the World Robotics Championships, where he and his team finished near the top. Kyle plans to attend the University of Calgary to pursue a degree in science with a focus on astrophysics.

Liam Squires, Springbank Community High School Math 30-1 Liam’s hard work, proactive approach to learning and natural aptitude led to his perfect score on the Math 30-1 Diploma Exam. When he is not focused on school, Liam enjoys reading and playing hockey, guitar and chess. After graduation, he hopes to attend either the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia or the University of Calgary, to pursue a degree in engineering or computer science.

Emily Trew, Chemistry 30 This is Emily’s second time being recognized by the Board of Trustees for her exemplary performance. Last year, she was commended for achieving 100 per cent on the Biology 30 Diploma Exam. Emily credits her recent success on the Chemistry 30 Diploma Exam to her ability to stay on top of her work, ask probing questions and complete assignments to the highest standard. She also was motivated by her mother’s promise to buy her a cake if she achieved another perfect score! Emily attends Mount Royal University, where she majors in science.

Chair Fiona Gilbert recessed the meeting at 10:17 a.m.

Chair Fiona Gilbert reconvened the meeting at 10:29 a.m.
