Part - 6: Compliance status of ‘Quality Assurance Guidelines of Learning Material in Multiple Media, Curriculum and Pedagogy’ – As per Annexure - VII of UGC(ODL) Regulations, 2017:
HEI shall mention compliance details against the requirements in terms of Learning material (Print Media), Audio- Video Material: Quality Standards, Online Material: Quality Standards, Computer-based material: Quality Standards and Curriculum and Pedagogy: Quality Standards, as mentioned in the Annexure-VII of the Regulations.
Instructional delivery mechanism: We follow a modern ICT enabled approach form of instruction. As it is a learner oriented system of education, it is different from conventional mode of education. Here, learner will be an active participant and most of the instruction has through distance rather than face to face communication. The following will be the delivery mechanism for this course: • Self Learning Material (SLM): The printed material of the programme in the form of Self Learning Material (SLM) has been supplied to the students during their enrolment to the course. • Audio-Visual Material Aids: Video lectures of the course has been produced by the Directorate and will be uploaded to the University Website. A video Programme will be normally of 45 min to 1 hour duration. Virtual Classes has been organised from time to time for the benefit of the learners.
Part - 7: Compliance status of ‘Guidelines on preparation of Self-learning Material’ – As per Annexure - VIII of UGC (ODL) Regulations, 2017:
HEI shall mention the process followed to ensure that SLMs are prepared as per the guidelines mentioned in the Regulations. The explicit details of approval by its Statutory Authorities shall also be mentioned.
A major quality concern of any Open and Distance learning institution is to develop quality Self-Learning Materials (SLMs) for its Learners. The Self Learning Materials has been developed basically learners centric materials, which a learner to easily access and acclimate the contains. Distance Learner usually depended lot SLMs because they have to learn on their own, at a time space and place of their own choice. Printed SLMs on all the programmes as prepared by best available experts in the subjects are supplied to the students from DODL Head quarter or respective study centres. While the Learning would give the students the required academic guidance they are advice to supplement they are reading at home by going trough the prescribed text and consulting the suggested reference works as far as possible. The Self Learning Material has been designed with the approach of two-way communication between the learner and content. The Self Learning Material has been involve the learner actively through various experience-based activities and assignments.It is totally clear instruction regarding subject. The SLMs has been developed totally self directed for each studies.There shall be detail learning map in Self Learning Material for the learner so that he or she will be self-directed for completion of his or her studies. HEI shall mention the process followed to ensure that PPRs are prepared as per the guidelines mentioned in the Regulations. The explicit details of approval by its Statutory Authorities shall also be mentioned.
A) Programme’s Mission &Objective: The University of Kalyani was established in the year 1960 and has grown into one of the premier Institute of West Bengal with a strong base of administration and qualified faculty towards the mission of advancement of learning. Directorate of Open &Distance Learning (DODL) of the University of Kalyani was established in the year 2006 with the recognition of the then Distance Education Council (DEC), IGNOU, New Delhi. Since its inception, the DODL has been striving hard to serve the students who are otherwise deprived of higher education. Within this short span of time it has become a lighthouse of learning for persons of all ages and genders, particularly to such persons who, for different reasons, cannot avail the higher course of studies as regular full time students. Apart from all these the Directorate has a vision to achieve some other goals and missions, particularly in view of the tremendous advancement in information and communication technologies in the present millennium. Since its inception, DODL is trying to develop a system of education that is neither entirely separate from nor wholly independent of the formal full time campus system of education. It would complement the other. The University of Kalyani aims to introduce PG course in English under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of Education with a view to promote the holistic development through academic excellence, employability, acquisition of analytical skills and higher research. It intends to promote the discipline of English and motivate the students to thrive in English. B) Relevance of the programme with HEI’s Mission &Goals: The relevance of the PG course in English under ODL mode of Education will provide the connectivity between the Institution and the learners, the identification and nurturing of talent, research in the field of pedagogy for development of efficient learning process for the learners. Focusing on rural economy and the need and aspirations of the youth in the region is one of the missions of the University of Kalyani and it tries to encourage student enrolment from among weaker sections, even beyond the reservation limit. Regular Mode of Education is not sufficient enough to reach this goal. Introducing Post Graduate Course in English through distance mode of education we can reach to the unreached. C) Nature of Prospective Group of Learners It aims for the development of knowledge modules having the right content to take care of the aspirations of academic community and to address to the personalized needs of the learners under low level of disposable income, rural dwellers, women, unskilled men, minorities etc. Students who graduated themselves and also do not find an opportunity to go for post graduate studies in regular mode of education due to the limitation of seats. We will offer them the best of the opportunity by offering the subject at post graduate level. D) Appropriateness of programme to be conducted in Open &Distance Learning mode to acquire specific skills and competence: The course intends to build the connectivity and knowledge network among and within institutions of higher learning in the country with a view of achieving critical mass of researchers in Education. E) Instructional Design i) Curriculum design and detailed syllabus: The curriculum design and detail syllabus will be found in the Annexures. ii) Duration of Programme: Minimum 2 years is required to complete this programme. However, the students have the liberty to complete this course within 5 years from registration. iii) Faculty and Support requirement: 2 Fulltime Contractual Faculties (2 Assistant Professor) have been appointed by the University to run this course according to the New Regulations 2017, adopted by UGC for ODL mode. Besides that, the University has 7 experienced faculties in the department of English. Students who will be admitted in this course will also get help from them. PCP, on a regular basis, will be conducted by these experienced faculty members. Resource Persons for the Study Centres to conduct PCP in this course will be selected from the University to maintain the quality of the education. iv) Instructional delivery mechanism: We will follow a modern ICT enabled approach form of instruction. Face to face counselling or Personal Contact Programme (PCP) generally will be organised either on Saturday or Sunday and sometimes on weekdays also, if necessary. F) Procedures for admissions, curriculum transaction and evaluation: Admission: Target Group: Those who are not attending regular classes for different reasons and also the working professionals will be our target group of learners. Eligibility: For admission to P.G Course in English under ODL mode of Education the candidate should satisfy the following condition: (i) Hons/Spl. Hons/ General Graduate (10+2+3) with qualifying marks in the subject concerned carrying a total of at least 300 marks / Pass Graduate (10+2+2) with one year Bridge Course in relevant subject/ Pass Graduate (10+1+3)/(11+3) with qualifying marks in the relevant subject concerned carrying a total of at least 300 marks. A candidate with M.A. in a subject is eligible to get admission in M.A in English offered through Distance Mode irrespective of whether or not that subject was offered by him/her at the degree stage. But the candidates with M.A. in professional subject like, Music, Drama, Filam Studies, Physical Education, General Education (M.Ed) will not be eligible to avail this provision. Duration of the Programme: Minimum 2 years are required to complete this programme. The maximum duration of the programme will be of 5 years. Evaluation: Two system of evaluation will be followed for this programme. Continuous evaluation in the form of assignments (Weightage: 20%): There will be one graded assignment per course. The assignment is to be submitted by the learners within specified date. Term – end Examination (weightage: 80%) Term end examination will be held once in every year in the month of August. A learner will be allowed to appear in the term-end examination, only after he/she has registered for that course and submitted the assignment. G) Requirement of the Laboratory support and Library resources: In order to run the PG course in English under ODL mode of Education the enriched laboratory support and library resources are very much needed with a focus on the following: • Additional references/ further readings should be updated and included in the course materials. • The Directorate library should be strengthened by including more titles on Distance education as well as the latest journals. • Study material may be provided in soft copies and also through email to the learners. • Facility to download study material from the website by the learners should be provided. H) Cost Estimate of the Programme and the Provisions: The cost estimate of the PG course in English under ODL mode of Education should be restricted under the following head of expenditure:
Part - 9: Compliance status of ‘Guidelines on Learner Support Centre’ – As per Annexure - X of UGC(ODL) Regulations, 2017:
HEI shall mention the process followed for identification of LSCs and the agreement terms for providing support to the learners thereby ensuring compliance to the LSCs provisions of the Regulations. The explicit details of approval by its Statutory Authorities/CIQA shall also be mentioned.

As per UGC, DEB guideline the Kalyani University has been selected the 25 Government aided Colleges under its territorial jurisdiction as learner Support Centres which have well Equipped academic as well as physical infrastructure. All the Learner Support Centres have been instructed by the Kalyani University such as Admission, PCP Schedule, Internal assessment,End Term examinations and publication of the result.

Part - 12: Compliance status of 'Admissions and Fees' – As per Regulations 12 of UGC(ODL) Regulations, 2017:
