Information for the Big Bosvigo Bike Ride on Sunday 27 April 2014 - Raising money for Bosvigo School

The Big Bosvigo Bike Ride is taking place on Sunday 27 April 2014 on the Bissoe Trail. The plan is to cycle or walk as much of the trail as you would like with your friends, raising money for Bosvigo School. We have suggested 3 points you could join the trail but if you wanted there are other places you could join including starting at to do the whole 11½ miles of the trail. However, due to the number of people who will be needed to help at the event, we’re really sorry but we won’t be 2014 able to provide support for the section from Devoran to Bissoe.

The most important thing about the ride is that we want you to be safe so please can you take note of the following: ● Wear a helmet ● Sections of the trail are on-road. Be careful of vehicles and make sure children take care and pull over to the side when cars approach ● There are road crossings over busy roads. Make sure the children stop before the road as most of them do not have a gate before the crossing - and take care when crossing ● Be considerate about other users of the trail. There will be other cyclists, walkers and horse riders ● We recommend that there are no more than 2 children per adult ● Make sure you take plenty to drink, especially if it is hot ● Take waterproofs and warm clothes (it is after all!) ● Take snacks to motivate and keep energy levels up ● For children (and adults) who don’t do much cycling, the longer distances may be hard to achieve. Try not to over-extend yourselves

The route - distances and starting points Starting points will be: Shortest route: (2½ miles to Portreath) Starting approx. 10.45 a.m. at ‘The Bike Barn’ at Bridge – it’s flat and downhill from here Medium distance: (5 miles to Portreath) Starting approx. 10.30 a.m. at Scorrier – it’s mostly downhill or flat from here Longest route: (9 miles to Portreath) Starting approx. 10 a.m. at Bissoe

We are planning to meet up in Portreath around lunchtime. We will have marshals in place at various points for part of the day. If you do want to start at Devoran and do the whole trail, Portreath is 11½ miles from the start of the trail. However, due to the number of people who will be needed to help at the event, we’re really sorry but we won’t be able to provide support for the section from Devoran to Bissoe.

Picnic at Portreath We hope you will pack a picnic and enjoy some time with your friends and family at the beach. We can’t guarantee the weather so please pack something warm and don’t forget sun cream!

Getting back from Portreath We may be able to use minibuses to ferry people and their bikes from Portreath back to the 3 starting points but please try to make your own arrangements.

Directions These will be available on the morning of the ride.

Fundraising The idea of this event is to raise money for the playground developments. There are three ways to raise money: ● Get a sponsorship form from the school office or download a copy. Get sponsorship, collect money and hand it in to the school office ● Use our ‘MyDonate’ on-line giving service ● Use a combination of the on-line giving and a traditional sponsorship form

On our ‘MyDonate’ on-line giving service, each fundraiser can have their own page that people can sponsor them through. The site will let people pay using credit and debit cards and doesn’t charge commission, unlike many sites. It’s backed by BT so it’s safe. Hopefully this will make it easier for Auntie Edna in Australia to sponsor you! The FOBSA MyDonate page is at: mydonate.bt.com/charities/fobsa If you have any problems with the site let us know and we will help you out.
