Next Events 25 reetings and best wishes to everyone participating in the 2020 - . It’s great that Gwe can come together over the airwaves and over the internet, to share so many aspects of Scouting together at this challenging time.

This year is the 63rd annual JOTA and our 24th JOTI and we believe this year, thanks to your participation, will be the largest ever Scouting event in the world. It will be a place where we can share our experiences, listen and learn with fellow Scouts and others from all across the world. Our theme is ‘Together’ with a focus on nature, our community, in friendship, keeping healthy, and singing out loud!

This year’s JOTA-JOTI provides many new ideas which help us add to the main purpose of which is to communicate with each other using amateur radio and the internet. Just as in a real physical Jamboree it will be challenging to do all the incredible activities, so be sure to check out the new interactive map to see the full extent and timings of all that is happening so you can make the very most of this unique experience.

There are no long, dusty walks at this Jamboree and from your own homes or scout meeting places, you’ll be able to join in chats, play games, engage with live shows, accept challenges, sing along at campfires as well join the talent shows, and connect and be inspired as you interact with Scouts and Guides as well as other young people from around the world.

Please remember that this event is a great opportunity to show what Scouts do – that you have fun and you make a difference in your local community by being of service to others. We encourage you to invite your friends and others in your network to share in this unique JOTA- JOTI experience.

Please take the opportunity to read the Code of Conduct and do your best to make sure that everyone participating in JOTA-JOTI has a safe and enjoyable event.

We look forward to meeting you virtually during JOTA-JOTI as we share this great event TOGETHER.

GENERAL INFORMATION

What is JOTA-JOTI?

Jamboree On The Air - Jamboree On The Internet, known as JOTA-JOTI, is the world’s largest digital Scout event taking place on the Internet and over the airwaves. Held ever year in October, the event connects millions of young people around the world for a full weekend of online activities that promote friendship and global citizenship. When and where it will be held?

This year JOTA-JOTI 2020 will take place from 16 to 18 October. The dynamic programme features a variety of non-formal education activities, including webinars, global campfires, talent shows, live shows, and much more. World Scouting’s global partners are actively involved in the event, offering their expertise and fun activities to engage participants.

JOTA-JOTI events normally take places at thousands of locations around the world organised by local groups. For 2020, however, we are all finding ourselves in exceptional circumstances. This has meant that for 2020 there will be a reduction in the number large JOTA-JOTI events, and an increase in the number of people taking part at home. We recognised this in our event planning - we have a wide range of programme opportunities for young people to take part in JOTA-JOTI at home. This year, more than any other, it is important that we are all able to communicate with each other.

6 JOTA-JOTI 2020 EVENT HANDBOOK

Who can participate?

The JOTA-JOTI programme aims to support Scouts and non-Scouts of all ages to learn about communications technology, the values of global citizenship, and how together we can solve the most pressing challenges facing our planet.

How to take part?

JOTA-JOTI enables young people and volunteers to participate in fun and engaging group activities over the internet and amateur radio focused on developing 21st century skills through Scouting. Why do we have this event?

The purpose of JOTA-JOTI is to enable and encourage Scouts around the world to communicate with one another by means of amateur radio and the internet, providing a fun and educational Scouting experience and promoting their sense of belonging to a worldwide Scout Movement.

BE SAFE DURING JOTA-JOTI

Keeping young people Safe from Harm1 online is an important aspect of this event. Through chat moderation, “listening ears”, e-learning courses and a number of sessions about how to be safe online, we make sure that all participants have a positive and inclusive JOTA-JOTI experience.

Given COVID-19, participating in JOTA-JOTI 2020 will look quite different from last year. Staying connected is more important than ever, and keeping young people Safe From Harm is always a priority for World Scouting. Together, we are all responsible for creating an environment where everyone can have fun, be safe and be respected.

There are two options to register this year: Scout Leaders can register their groups or young people can register individually. Whichever way you are participating, be prepared for a safe event by reading this page carefully.

Safe from Harm Guidelines

Safe From Harm is a priority programme for World Scouting, with actions and procedures designed to help keep all of our members safe. Abuse, harassment and bullying are completely unacceptable within Scouting. That is why having a Safe From Harm procedure is mandatory for all world, regional and national Scout events. This includes mandatory Safe From Harm training for all WOSM staff and volunteers

Throughout JOTA-JOTI, our aim is to protect young people and to provide valuable information to adult leaders, parents and volunteers on our safeguarding approach.

The rules apply to all participants using WOSM’s online platforms or those of our Trusted Partners for JOTA-JOTI. If anything goes wrong, upsets or worries a participant when using these online platforms, they should reach out to a trusted adult and/or write to us at safejotajoti@ scout.org. As needed, we can help participants follow-up with their National Scout Organization (NSO)’s International Commissioner or Safe From Harm co-ordinator.

We are committed to our responsibility to ensure that each participant’s experience of the JOTA-JOTI is as safe as possible as they network and make new friends across the world.

We have dedicated moderators who monitor the JOTI platforms to ensure that all of our users are Safe From Harm online. The moderators work with our Safe from Harm team to follow-up on any concerns raised.

The World Safe From Harm policy is implemented alongside the WOSM Code of Conduct that outlines how members of WOSM are expected to behave with others.
