A component to enlightenment,yoga has the potential of promoting concentration and mental stability while performing rigorous body exercises. It has the ability of uniting the body, mind and spirit. All the physical power built up by the yoga asanas (pose) enhances the health and natural strength of the body.

WHAT IS YOGA?

Yoga is the physical, mental and spiritual practices which originated in ancient with a view to attain a state of permanent peace of mind in order to experience one’s true self.

According to yogasutra of patanjali : ‘Yoga is restraint of the activities of the mind.’ According to Bhagavad-Gita : ‘Evenness (of mind) is Yoga’ ‘Yoga is skillfulness in action’

ORIGIN OF YOGA:

Yoga essentially originated in the subcontinent of India. It has been around since ancient times and was performed by yogis. The term yoga has been derived from a Sanskrit word which translates to basically union and discipline.

In the earlier days, the followers of Hinduism, Buddhism

and Jainism practiced it. Slowly, it found its way in Western

countries. Ever since people from all over the world

perform yoga to relax their minds and keep their bodies fit.

Furthermore, after this popularity of yoga, India became known for yoga worldwide. People all over the world have started to realize the benefits of yoga. Several workshops are held and now there are even professional yogis who teach this ancient practice to people so they can learn about it. WORLD YOGA DAY:

International day of yoga is also called as the world yoga day. United Nations General Assembly has declared 21st of June as International Yoga Day on 11th of December in 2014. Yoga in India is considered to be around 5,000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. Yoga was originated in India in ancient time when people were used of meditation to transform their body and mind. International day of yoga is supported by various global leaders. It is celebrated by the people of more than 170 countries including

USA, China, Canada, etc. It is celebrated on international level by organizing the activities like yoga training campus, yoga copetitions and so many activities to enhance the awareness about yoga benefits among common public all over the world.

It is celebrated to let people know that regular yoga practice lead to the better mental, physical and intellectual health. It positively changes the lifestyle of the people and increase the level of well-being.

BASIC YOGA ASANAS:

UTKATASANA: This pose strengthens your lrgs, upper back, and

shoulders. BALASANA: Allows the body and mind to relax, restore, and come back to centre.

ADHO MUKHA SVASANA: This pose strengthens and lengthens

the entire body.

URDHVA MUKHA SHVANASANA: Strengthens your upper body and stretches out your chest and spine.

VRKSASANA: This pose strengthens your legs, upper back, and shoulders

TRIKONASANA: Allows the body and mind to relax, restore, and come back to centre. VIRABHADRASANA I: This pose strengthens and lengthens the entire

body.

KUMBHAKASAN: This pose strengthens your abdominals and promotes stability.

CONCLUSION:

Yoga, as a mindfulness practice, can help correct basic limitations of the mind by improving self awareness, self control and self esteem.
