Otmar Dorfer was the 19 th person to be pre- sented with a T shirt for 200 monthly runs. Otmar had a successful background in interna- tional skiing as an administrator and technical expert and his contribution to skiing was acknowledged by being awarded the Australia Sports Medal in 2000.

Otmar was originally a long distance runner then became more interested in sprinting and middle distance running but because of injuries in recent years has become a walker. His first handicap was on the old East Basin course in January 1987. Originally all Otmar’s runs were in the long course but for the last four years have been in the Waddell Series. When he changed to the walk handicaps he enjoyed much success and in early 2005 by winning two gold and two bronze medals in consecutive months. Can You Help ?

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, arguable perhaps, but few would disagree that they do add value to our Vetrunner and this is where your help is needed.

Vetrunner needs folk who:

1. Can act as official photographer at events when our regulars are unavailable, 2. Informally take and submit photos to build the pool available for publication (as an on-course marshal you could be ideally placed to capture the action) and 3. Bring along their digital camera, just in case.

What's that I hear you say... " love to help but I'm no photographer and my camera is only a basic point and shoot"! Vetrunner is not a photographic magazine, high end multi-mega pixel equipment and arty images are not our game (Vetrunner images are typically less than 0.5 megapixels or 80K jpegs).

The primary role of an 'official' photographer is to take portraits of event winners, action shots of the day are a bonus. So, if you own a camera and can take family snapshots you can help.

It is said that the most memorable photos of all times were the fuzzy silhouette-like images of the first moon landing - the take home message is ... a photo of the moment beats no photo every time. If you can help us by adding your name to a list of available photographers or want to know more please get in touch with either:

FIRST SUB FOUR MINUTE MILE

Roger Bannister’s first ever sub four minutes mile was manually timed by three officials using stop watches.

The classical photo showing Bannister finishing shows one official having a pipe in his mouth and the second one hav- ing a cigarette in his mouth. The third official was the only one smoke free.

Bannister travelled to the stadium by public transport and, as the bus was full, had to stand during the trip.
