From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today in the Gospel we see the humanity of Christ powerfully on display. Often times, I think we as Catholics focus more on the divinity of the Christ rather than his humanity. We have to remember that Jesus is fully God and fully man, fully divine and fully human.

When we read this Gospel passage from John, it is powerfully evident that Jesus is a real human being, son of God, God of heaven, man of the earth, weeping over a friend.

His heart is fully divine … YES … but it is also fully human. He enjoyed friends and he found a home and a safe place with them, over the hill and away from the mob. We can picture him there – the talk, the chat, the prayers, the love; meals with other friends who dropped in … and times of prayer and silence.

The one who can share a laugh, eat a scone, have a drink or a cup of coffee. The one who’d give a wink at the sign of peace! Not always so serious. There’s no such thing as a sad saint! A joyful heart radiates the love of Jesus.

Jesus is the very best friend. Friendship gives new spirit.

When life is ending we will give thanks for friends. Real friendship is when another’s thoughts and life become at least as or more important than our own. So the resurrection and the life is not just for after death. It is for now. We raise each other up in friendship and in love. In that is the grace of the Lord, himself a friend, for when we love, God lives in us.

Enjoy the rest of Lent! God’s blessings on you all!

In Christ,

Fr. Shaughnessy

ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN REGULATIONS Ash Wednesday (Wednesday February 14, 2018) and Good Friday (March 30, 2018) are days of abstinence for all Catholics over the age of 14. On these two days, fast, as well as abstinence, is also obligatory for those from the ages of 18-59. Abstinence means refraining from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic will lightly excuse himself or herself from this obligation.

All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Here again Catholics will not hold themselves lightly excused, but if there is a serious health problem, this obligation would not apply. Before that, 21 years of experience in higher education enrollment management, including eight years as Assistant Director of Admissions at and various roles up to Associate Director of Admissions in 11 years at . Involvement at St. Joseph includes serving on the Enrollment Management Committee in 2016- 17 and coaching girl's basketball. My name is Aaron Mathis, and I’m seeking a position on the St. Joseph School Board. I’ve been a member of the St. Joseph parish my entire life. My wife Wendy and I have a daughter, Haley, who’s in first grade at St. Joseph School. I’ve worked for a brokerage firm in St. Louis for 13 years, and I’m also a member of the Knights of Columbus. I’m driven to make our great school even better for all of our children. I’d appreciate your consideration for this position, and I’d be honored to have the opportunity to serve our school community.

My name is Rick Dierker and I am running for the St. Joseph school board. My family and I have been a member of St. Joseph's parish since 2016, but we were members from 2001 to 2011 until my previous job moved us to the Atlanta area. A new job moved us back into the area in 2016 and we are glad to be back. My wife Kimberly and I have been married for 18 years and we have 4 daughters: Mikayla is a Sophomore at St. Pius, Mackenzie is in 8th grade at St. Joseph's and will be attending St. Pius in the fall, Annaliese is in 4th grade at St. Joseph's, Ameilia is in 1st grade at St. Joseph's. My undergraduate degree is in Administration and I have an M.B.A. My career has been in Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis. I am currently a Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis. I am a product of Catholic education. I attended Our Lady of Fatima for grade school and St Thomas Aquinas-Mercy for high school and for college and graduate school. I decided to put my name in for the school board because our family has been enrolled in 9 different schools over the years, most of which were in the Atlanta area, and we have seen various ways of doing things. I believe this experience would allow me to bring a different perspective that would benefit the school. Thank you for your consideration.

My name is Jennifer Wallis. My husband, Nick, and I have been parishioners at St. Joseph for 8 years. Our two daughters attend St. Joseph School. Addie is in the 4th grade and Faith is in the 3rd grade. I attended where I double majored in psychology and sociology and then went to St. Louis University where I earned my master’s in social work Degree. I currently work as a school social worker for the Fox C-6 School District and also teach adjunct at Jefferson College and Fontbonne University. My family is active in the parish. I have been a room mom in the past, I coach CYC every fall, and also volunteer for the Helping Hands Committee. I attended Catholic Schools K-12 and truly value Catholic education. I would be honored to serve on the Board of Education. Food Pantry Thank You!
