This Land Adventure to Brazil’s colonial Golden Triangle—the country’s economic core—has focuses on the country’s unique culture and the arts, with visits to UNESCO World Heritage Centers and Site do Campo. On your journey, you’ll learn about the rush and explore the former mine; discover the works of the colonial sculptors and admire their legacy; and visit well-preserved churches, bridges, fountains, and . DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1

Arrive in Rio de Janeiro and be escorted for your domestic flight to Belo Horizonte. Upon arrival in Belo Horizonte, transfer to Tiradentes, where you’ll be assisted to your hotel with plenty of time to relax and freshen up before the evening’s activities, when you’ll become acquainted with Brazil’s distinctive comida mineira—Minas Gerais’ tasty, regional cuisine—over dinner at Emporio Santo Antonio. Based on country-style cooking, it’s typified by hearty dishes, served up in portions that’ll challenge even the biggest of appetites. Dinner is served Emporio Santo Antonio Restaurant. Overnight at Solar da Ponte.

Day 2

After breakfast, depart Ouro Preto and head to Tiradentes, with a full day’s exploration en route. Head first to São João Del Rey, the city, where you’ll feel like you are taking a step back in time, as you explore some of the cobblestone streets with your guide. The colonial center is home to 18th-century churches, the Sacred Art Museum, and the Railway Museum. Then head to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Congonhas do Campo, where you can admire famed sculptor Aleijadinho’s fantastic Stations of the Cross. Tour ends in Ouro Preto. Dinner will be served at Solar do Rosario. Overnight at Solar do Rosario

Day 3

Founded in the early eighteenth century, Ouro Preto is a masterpiece of colonial Brazilian architecture and art. In fact, UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site. Here the intricate details of the buildings and art works clearly reflect the originality and autonomy of the craftsmen and artists who created this monument of Brazilian style. A visit to Ouro Preto is a step back into history and past human accomplishments. The town has thirteen large churches and numerous public monuments and buildings. The most spectacular of the churches are Saint Francis, Pilar, and the Opera House. Other important sites include the Casa dos Contos (the former minting house),the Mineralogical Museum. Last, but certainly not least, most local restaurants serve excellent meals based on regional culinary traditions which reflect their Brazilian, European, and African origins. Day 4

After breakfast, visit Passagem Gold mine. Entering the mine in railcars that follow the gold veins as far as crystalline floodlit and being offered a demonstration of gold panning. A trolley drives us to the underground galleries, which reach 315 meters of length and 120 meters of depth . After lunch depart to Belo Horizonte and to enjoy a Panoramic City Tour. Founded in 1897, today Belo Horizonte is Brazil’s third largest city and an important industrial center. The city’s main tourist attraction is Pampulha, a planned neighborhood surrounding a man-made lake and graced by an architectural complex designed by world famous Oscar Niemeyer. A district where one can see the first works by the architect Niemeyer, landscape projects by Burle Marx and paintings by Portinari. This district is looked upon as an early example of contemporary architecture in Brazil, which reached its climax in Brasilia. The complex is basically composed of the Saint Church, the Casa do Baile (an elegant ballroom), the Yacht Club and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The city enjoys a lively cultural calendar, especially at the Palácio das Artes (a multi-theater performing arts center). Night life is also lively and the Savassi district offers many entertainment opportunities at its nightclubs, bars, and restaurants.
