The Glasgow Forum of Faiths was founded in 2002 to bring together leaders of faith communities and civic authorities to discuss issues of mutual interest and to work for the > good of Glasgow. The forum also seeks to promote mutual understanding of the teachings, traditions and practices of different faith communities including an awareness of their common ground and a respect for their distinctive features. The forum’s members represent the main religions in Glasgow. They are: Bahá’í Buddhist Christian Hindu Jewish Muslim Sikh Both the 2001 and 2011 Censuses reveal the religious diversity of Glasgow. As the graph shows, since 2001 there has been an increase in the number people who describe themselves as Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim or Sikh. There has also been a significant increase in the number of people who state that they have no religion. During the same period, there has been a fall in the number of people affiliated to the Church of and Roman . The number of people who described themselves as Jewish in 2011 has fallen slightly since the previous census.

The Forum has produced this booklet as a resource for the people of Glasgow as its contribution to the legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
