Connector fans | For a pleasant room climate illustration of the air flow and air propagation in corridor and room. Proven technology is convincing More than 2000 connector fans already installed ensure optimum air quality in pri- vate and business premises every day. They are hardly perceptible and yet powerful in their effect. – The connector fan is barely audible, no matter whether you are sleeping relaxed at night at a whisper-quiet 21 dB(A) or when you are working at 24 dB(A). Unpleasant noise from the ventilation system is thus a thing of the past. – Connector fans are at least as good a sound barrier as a closed door. Outside noise thus stays the other side of the door. – The amount of air to be exchanged is adjusted to the needs of the user (up to 200 m³/h), whereby the same air volume is always guaranteed during operation. Optimum air quality with connector fans Connector fans enhance the benefits of mechanical ventilation. The elements are integrated into doors or walls and change air almost silently between corridor and rooms. The result is effective and demand-oriented ventilation. All this without air ducts on each storey. Combined ventilation is a more efficient way to ventilate homes and offices than conventional air distribution. Used correctly, connector fans help reduce the supply air volume considerably. Connector fans are only in operation when people occupy a room. Occupied rooms in turn receive an above-average amount of air. Supply air in the room Connector fans ensure comfortable mixing of the supply air with the room air, so that the entire roomair is well distributed. The comfort conditions are achieved only a few centimetres away from the supply air outlet. Connector fans are only in operation if the door is closed or if a room is occupied. This directly helps to reduce the total amount of air, meaning that the ventilation units and ducts on the customer side can be dimensioned about 30 % smaller. Air quality At the floor, the CO2 concentration is between 400 and 500 ppm, at the exhaust air vent height between 800 and 900 ppm. This results in a source air flow similar to that in the occupied zone, with correspondingly high ventilation efficiency. In the corridor, under the ceiling, the exhaust air concentration is between 700 and 800 ppm. The supply air on the floor and the exhaust air under the ceiling mix only minimally. illustration of the air flow and air propagation in corridor and room. Winner of the 2011 competition sponsored by the Office for Structural Engineering (Zurich) and the Minergie Association 'Active transfer passages'. Highly versatile – in offices and apartments Connector fans in office buildings Connector fans ensure sufficient supply air in Simple and elegant: wall connector fans in Meeting room in an office building in entire floor sections room-in-room box Zug equipped with door connector fans Connector fans in private rooms The housing cooperative "Mehr als Wohnen " Connector fans harmoniously integrated relies on connector fans in a building and in the house benefits from more than 25 % more efficient operation compared to houses with conven- tional comfort ventilation. Highly versatile – Ventilation through doors and in offices and apartments walls The advantage of connector fans is that they can be used in doors and walls thanks to their simple technology. This allows them to be used both in living rooms and in the office. In doing so, they cater for all the various requirements. The modular product family can be adapted to the widest possible variety of applications and specifica- tions in no time at all, thus enabling individual solutions that ideally fulfil the requirements. The benefits are obvious: – Simple and quick to implement, even for the most varied requirements – Can be harmoniously integrated into the overall appearance – Because there is simply no better solution Where are the limits? Connector fans cannot be used between two different fire compartments Ventilation through doors and walls Ventilation through the doors: connector fans extend the function of Ventilation through the wall: connector fans are integrated directly the door to a ventilation element. Increased air movement can only be into walls when larger air volumes and even better sound values are detected near the closed door. The occupied area is thus optimally and required. Saving energy made easy Home ventilation with connector fans Residential ventilation with conventional comfort ventilation Supply air/fresh air Exhaust air/exit air Supply air/fresh air Active transfer passages Exhaust air/exit air Passive transfer passages Overtopping – Simplest retrofitting in an old building – Each room is to be provided with a ventilation duct – Supply and exhaust air only in the corridor and in the wet rooms. – The ducts are thicker where they are fed through the concrete ceiling. Saves space and costs, simplifies planning – All rooms always receive the same amount of air, even if they are not – Incredibly quiet operation: connector fans available with max. 21 dB(A) occupied – The noise stays outside, because connector fans are at least – Mostly perceptible sounds of airflow and plant as good a sound barrier as a closed door – Through the air gap under the doors, light and sound often penetrate – Fresh air is available where it is needed the room from the corridor (simple individual room controls) Energy savings during operation The building project «Mehr als Wohnen» provides practical confirmation. Actual Advantages of composite ventilation in residential construction measurements at this property show 25 to 50 % more efficient operation with connector fans compared to conventional comfort – Thanks to the improved ventilation efficiency, drying out the rooms in winter is ventilation systems. much easier than with conventional comfort ventilation systems Thanks to this efficiency, the set limit value of – Compared to other air exchange systems, connector fans are very hygienic and 30 kWh/m² is also significantly undershot with mechanical ventilation (20 % is possible). create a healthy room atmosphere Source: Mühlebach/Ménard/Carisch/Muller – Installation is possible in any kind of indoor hinged doors and equally suitable burns in 2016 for new and renovated buildings – Connector fans are hardly audible and just as good a sound barrier as a Energy savings thanks closed door higher ventilation efficiency – The durable components are very simple and accessible without tools – Expenditure on the installation is minimal, even with subsequent assembly Energy savings thanks demand-dependent operation Energy consumption with conventional comfort ventilation Energy consumption with connector fans Saving energy made easy Office ventilation with connector fans Supply air/fresh air Exhaust air/exit air Active transfer passages Passive transfer passages – Simple installation in new buildings and very simple retrofitting in old buildings – Supply and exhaust air only in the corridor and in the wet rooms – Thanks to better ventilation efficiency, up to 30 % saving in space and costs compared with conventional mixing ventilation – For offices, quiet operation of the connector fans: 24dB(A) – Discussions in the room may be perceived, but will not be understood – Simple individual room controls: fresh air is available where it is needed Office ventilation with conventional mixed ventilation Supply air/fresh air Exhaust air/exit air Overtopping – Each room is to be provided with a ventilation duct – Good clearance height of the ventilation ducts and they are mostly under the beams – All rooms always receive the same amount of air, even if they are not occupied – Mostly perceptible sounds of airflow and plant ERICH KELLER AG Romanshornstrasse 17 CH-8583 Sulgen Tel. +41 71 644 88 88 Fax +41 71 644 88 80 [email protected] www.erichkeller.com.
