Inaugural Halloween in the D a great success as thousands of Detroit kids celebrate Halloween at parks, recreation centers, police precincts and fire stations Halloween was on full display Oct. 31 as thousands of children and their families dressed up in costumes, collected candy at various events and maybe got a scare as the City of Detroit Live from held its first Halloween in the D. Detroit: It’s the DON!!

Erinn Harris (District 3 Manager, Department of Neighborhoods) did live Police Chief James Craig and Fire Commissioner Eric Jones, joined by Citizens Radio Patrol members, interviews on Fox 2 and Channel 7 to emphasized their departments would maintain a heightened presence with community support to ensure safe promote Halloween in the D. Thank you to all the individuals, community groups, businesses and City employees who contributed to the success of the first Halloween in the D. The Halloween in the D effort was led by the Department of Neighborhoods, with Erinn Harris (District 3 Manager) serving as the coordinator. Victoria Kovari (General Manager), Ray Solomon II (District 7 Manager, and Chelsea Neblett (Volunteer Coordinator) played important roles in coordinating the effort. Page 2 • HALLOWEEN IN THE D 2018

“My family had a wonderful time enjoying the Hallow- Haunted Parks een in the D activities! The Trunk or Treats at the police precincts were so much fun. My 8-year-old and I loved all the activities at Clark Park including the Haunted Expanded in 2018 Park, bounce houses and the pinatas!,” said Tamara Last year, the City began with one Kamara, a Detroit resident and City employee. “It was haunted park but expanded to three a huge community effort that was well organized and I truly loved enjoying my city on this year. Children were treated to a magic show, fire eater, hula hoop artists, arts-n- crafts, fresh donuts and more. Police officers, along with volunteers and City employees, decorated their cars and handed out candy during trunk-or- treat events at all 11 precincts. From a pumpkin plunge and costume parties to the Crazy Hat Bingo and a carnival, Recreation hosted hundreds of residents who flocked to the centers for its annual Halloween events. The Department of Neighborhoods also recognized the businesses and organizations that supported Halloween in the D through financial or in-kind donations. Their support made the Halloween in the D events possible. A total of $64,000 in cash was donated, with another $30,000 in in-kind support. The top sponsors of Halloween in the D were Ford Motor Company Fund and DivDat, each contributing $5000. Comerica continued its support of the City with a $2500 contribution.

A number of City departments joined the fun by decorating their cars and passing out candy at the police precincts. The Department of Neighborhoods District Managers recognized employees’ efforts by selecting two winners based on decorations and participation. And the WINNERS are:
