Philippine Cuisine Is Catching On! From an article by Carolyn Ramoran-Malasig, Contributor to forbes.com

For the past couple of years, everyone who's anyone in the international food scene has been proclaiming that Filipino cuisine is the next big thing. So why does it continue to be underrated and why have so few people tried it?

Chef Myrna Segismundo, head of the Philippines' Kulinarya (Culinary) Tour in Europe, says that this reluctance is due to a lack of understanding. The cuisine, after all, has rather complex layers of flavors and techniques that are still quite foreign, as well as ingredients that people are still unfamiliar with.

"If you deconstruct the dish and explain to them the role of each ingredient, people will see the layering of flavors. For example, vinegar," Segismundo said. "Philippine vinegar has a sweetness in the sourness. When explained properly, people begin to taste the sourness and note the sweetness. The layered flavors won't shock them."

This is why she and her team were sent to Europe on the government-sponsored culinary tour – to replicate Filipino food's popularity in the United States, particularly in New York. After more than a month of spreading the food gospel in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, Segismundo has high hopes.

The adobo is a style of cooking that uses soy sauce Different kinds of ‘kinilaw’ and vinegar with a little bit of spice.

After the writing of the "Positio" which would take sometime, it will be presented to a team of Theologians for review. Once the team gives the "Affirmative" stance, it will be brought to a team of Cardinals. Once the cardinals give "Affirmative," the case is brought to Francis for his approval of the DECREE OF HEROIC VIRTUES.

It will be then, that the Servant of God, ALFREDO VERZOSA becomes "Venerable." It means, the candidate is worthy of veneration and has to wait for Divine affirmation through one major miracle. This process will end at .

Flights from Clark to Hawaii, California Pushed http://business.inquirer.net/232244/flights-clark-hawaii- california-pushed

The state-run operator of Clark International Airport in Pampanga province plans to start talks with “major carriers” to launch flights between Clark and Los Angeles, California.

In a statement yesterday, Clark International Airport Corp. president and CEO Alexander Cauguiran said they planned to hold negotiations with the airlines as early as this year. At present, the airport has international links to Incheon and Busan in South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Dubai and Doha. Starting October this year, China Eastern Airlines will fly the Shanghai-Clark route.

“CIAC is also negotiating with airlines to mount flights via Clark to Japan, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Taiwan and Thailand,” Cauguiran said.

Clark flights to the US would be beneficial to residents of northern Luzon, in particular the Ilocano community that number around three million living on the US West Coast. California accounts for 47 percent of in the US while Hawaii comes in second, hosting 10 percent of US- based Filipinos (Filipinos are the third-biggest ethnic group in Hawaii, next to the Chinese and Japanese).

The Ilocos region includes the provinces of , Ilocos Sur, La Union and .

Clark Airport is looking to increase passenger traffic to as much as 1.5 million passengers by year end. This is still below its capacity of four million passengers annually.

Meanwhile, the Duterte administration is forging ahead with plans to expand the air gateway, which would include a new passenger terminal that would double capacity by 2020. Mr. Duterte’s infrastructure plan for Central Luzon includes the P12.5-billion Clark New Terminal Building Project and the commencement of a mass transit railway project that will connect commuters from to Clark airport and the New Clark City in .

The 106-kilometer railway project, estimated to cost P255 billion, is planned for completion before the end of Mr. Duterte’s term and aims to cut the two-hour travel time from Manila to Clark to 55 minutes.
