Veterinary officers may check certificates and an incorrect certificate will mean disqualification. Exhibitors who cannot produce a certificate will be required to do so within seven days of the Show otherwise prize money will be forfeited.

21. MISUSE OF DRUGS The Society reserves the right to take blood and urine samples from any animal at the Show to test for the presence of illegal or banned substances.

HEALTH AND SAFETY 22. HEALTH AND SAFETY The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards. 23. LUNGING There should be no lunging in the Showground, including all collecting rings and public areas. Please use the warm-up area provided between the stables and Entrance 7. 24. RING GATES Horses or ponies will enter the show rings at walk. For safety reasons it may be necessary to close and reopen the ring gate before all competitors have entered. A steward will advise the judge when the class is ready to start. 25. NO SMOKING Strictly no smoking in any buildings or marquees on the Showground. 26. EVICTION The Stewards shall have power to remove from the Showground the animal belonging to (and cancel the tickets of) any participant who does not comply with the instructions given by the Stewards, without any responsibility attaching to the Stewards or the Society in consequence of such removal.

27. HANDLERS AND RIDERS All handlers, riders and drivers must be competent and experienced to compete at the level of competition in which entered.

Riders should be the appropriate weight for the horse or pony they are riding. Any riders not deemed the appropriate weight may be asked to leave the class at the discretion of the Kent County Show veterinary officer.

28. DOGS Exhibitors must ensure that their dogs are kept quiet, under strict control and on leads at all times whilst on the Showground itself, the Stable Area or the car parks.

14 JUDGING 29. JUDGING Only the Stewards and authorised officials (including the official photographer) shall enter any of the rings or have any communication with the Judges during the time the judging is taking place. All participants acting in opposition to this rule shall forfeit such premiums as may be awarded to their exhibits.

The Judges may withhold any prize where there is evident want of merit. Where there is only one entry shown in a class, the judges may award the first, second, third or fourth prize according to the merit of that entry.

Once a class has started, late competitors will only be allowed entry into the ring if the Judge is prepared to accept them.

It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to note the name of the Judge appointed for the classes they wish to enter and are advised, in the interests of all concerned, not knowingly to enter an animal bred by, previously owned by or has any connections with the Judge appointed.

In the event of a judge knowingly encountering an animal in which he/she has had a past or present financial or breeder interest, the Kent County Agricultural Society will arrange for the placement of that animal by another judge.

The decision of the Judge is final.

30. DRESS CODE All those entering the rings with horses or ponies, or to attend to horses or ponies must be properly dressed wearing hats, jackets and the appropriate exhibit number where applicable. Anyone riding a horse or pony on the Showground, practice areas or car parks must wear a hat of a standard approved by the governing body of his/her respective horse/pony society, association or discipline and under whose rules he/she is exhibiting or competing.

31. PROGENY All foals must be the offspring of the mares with which they are exhibited and accompany them into the judging ring.

32. TEMPORARY ACCIDENT Any animal suffering from an accident, having temporary consequences only, will not be disqualified on that account.

33. PROTESTS Any exhibitor wishing to make a protest, having reference to any exhibit at the Show, must make it in writing to the Show Office and deposit the sum of £20.00, which may, at the discretion of the Council, be forfeited to the funds of the Society, if the protest should appear to them to be frivolous or unreasonable. All protests must be delivered to the Show Manager before 5.00pm on the day of judging. After that hour no protest will be received unless a special and satisfactory reason can be given for the delay. A Council meeting will be called to consider any such protests at 10.30am on the following day at which time any person making a protest, or their authorised agent must be available to answer questions if required. Protests lodged against awards made on the third day of the Show will be considered at a time and place which will be fixed by the Council. The decision of the Council shall be final.

15 RESULTS AND PRIZES 34. PRIZE MONEY Please see individual class for details of prize money for equine and showjumping classes.

35. TROPHIES Trophies will be engraved and sent to exhibitors within two months of the Show date. All trophies are perpetual and must be returned prior to the following year’s Show.

36. RESERVE AWARDS In awarding prizes, the Judges are instructed to add a reserve number in each instance (provided there is sufficient merit), stating the next best animal, in case any animal to which a prize has been awarded should be disqualified.

In the case of any prize animal being disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding prize in that class shall take the prize that has been awarded to the disqualified animal. The lowest prize in the class shall go to the reserve number provided a reserve card has been awarded.

INTER HUNT TEAM RELAY Judging day: Sunday

JUDGE TBC

ENTRY FEES £25 per team

PRIZES 1st, £100; 2nd, £80; 3rd, £60 each for the two losing semi-finalists.

CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY Teams will compete in a knockout format competition, with a run-off between the runners up of the semi-final round to determine third and fourth places.

Matches in the first round will be determined by draw, with the exception that no two teams from the same hunt may be matched against each other.

Each competing hunt will provide at least one steward. The show will provide at least two stewards and a judge. The judge’s decision is final in all matters.

Two matching mirror-image courses will be built by the Show course builder. Each will be a short loop with obstacles, with the start and finish line in the same place. A short opportunity to view the course will be made available immediately before the competition. The course builder and arena party will be responsible for rebuilding any jumps knocked down during the competition.

For each round, the judge will toss a coin to determine which team has the choice of left or right course. Teams will make their way to the start on the appropriate side of the course. The starter will start each race by drop of flag.

Each rider will make their way around the complete course. On return to the start they will hand the baton (whip) on the next rider. The race is completed when all members of each team have crossed the finish line.

The race will be timed. 5 seconds penalties will be added for each jump knock-down. The winner of each round will be the team with the shortest time as adjusted by the time penalties.

85 If the whip is dropped on handover, the rider passing the whip on may dismount and hand it to the next rider who remains mounted.

If the handover fails, and the next rider passes the first obstacle (eg first jump) without the baton, the team will be eliminated from that round.

The competition is normally between teams of four riders. However if for veterinary or other legitimate reasons one team member has to drop out at the last minute the competition may continue with only three members in the team. In such cases the team order must be such that there is a baton handover between each rider - it is not permitted for one rider to complete two consecutive rounds with no handover.

No additional time penalties will be added for refusals, but only three refusals are permitted. If a horse refuses a third time, that team member must be “rescued” by the next rider in the team. The rescue rider must collect the whip from the refusing rider, complete their course, and then continue on to complete their own course.

Similarly if a rider is dismounted, they must be rescued.

The race will be stopped if a dismounted rider is unable to hand on the whip, or if for any reason, in the opinion of the stewards, a health or safety issue would arise were the race to continue. If the race is stopped then the clock will be stopped. The race, and clock, will be restarted at the discretion of the stewards, with riders in their approximate positions at the time the race was stopped.

The race may include a ‘mug and pole’ obstacle. If the rider drops the mug it may be picked up by a steward but must be replaced on the first pole, and the rider must repeat the obstacle.

The race may include a ‘bridge’ or ‘walk’. The rider must walk at least one full stride (four foot steps) through the obstacle. If they fail to do so a steward will immediately indicate to the judge, and a 5 second time penalty will be added. [Note to competitors, this is a change to the rules from previous years]

A briefing meeting will be held on the morning of the competition, to include representatives of each competing hunt and stewards from the show.

TROPHIES AND SPECIAL PRIZES T122 The Stanley Luckhurst Memorial Trophy for the winning team in the Inter Hunt Team Relay.
