PAGE 2 CALIFORNIABOWLINGNEWS.COM April 1, 2021 INSPIRED BUTTURFF READY FOR 2021 USBC MASTERS AND U.S. OPEN AT NATIONAL BOWLING STADIUM by Matt Cannizzaro ARLINGTON, TX – In 2019, Jakob Butturff was on top of the bowling world, pocketing more than $200,000 in Professional Bowlers Association competition and pick- ing up the first major title of his career at the United States Bowling Congress Masters. A year later, that world was upside down for the young left-hander from Tempe, Arizona, even beyond the global chaos that ensued because of COVID-19. The seven-time PBA Tour champion lost focus when it came to his health and physical fitness, and the year ended with the loss of his mother, Bridget, after a brave battle with cancer. Butturff knew there were two ways he could rebound from such a challenging time in his life, and the desire to continue making his mother proud was enough to steer him back to the habits and dedication that made him one of the world’s most successful bowlers over the last five years. Following a progress-proving performance at the recent PBA World Series of Bowling XII in Tampa, Florida, the 26-year-old is ready to bring that momentum to the iconic National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada, where he’ll finally get to defend his USBC Masters title and look to improve on some heartbreaking finishes at the U.S. Open. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Monday 6 January 2020 Jason Belmonte named Male Bowler of the Decade for the 2010s The sport’s most prestigious magazine “Bowlers Journal International” has selected Australian tenpin bowling star Jason Belmonte as its Male Bowler of the Decade for the 2010s. In arguably the most dominant decade by any bowler in the 60-plus year history of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), Belmonte shattered numerous records, winning 11 major championships including four USBC Masters titles (three of those in a row). He won 21 of his 22 career titles in the 2010s and joined the PBA “Millionaire’s Club” in a record-breaking 131 tournaments. Stellar performances in 2019 saw the 36-year- old cap the decade with a fifth PBA Player of the Year Award. Along the way, Belmonte notched up four coveted ESPY Awards, sharing the spotlight with numerous high-profile sports stars, and collaborated with the crew from Dude Perfect to produce Bowling Trick Shots that has resulted in one of its most popular YouTube segments ever recorded, with over 94 million hits since its release. (www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CACAmH4r1fw). In 2016 Belmonte launched a unique gaming initiative, billed as the most realistic bowling game ever made - BOWLING by Jason Belmonte, and joined forces late last year with NASCAR star Aric Almirola to throw the world’s fastest strike (www.worldsfasteststrike.com).
