BISON WRESTLING CLUB REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER NEWSLETTER Issue 11 7632 BISON WRESTLING NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO. 11 SEPTEMBER 2018 WELCOME LETTER UPCOMING EVENTS By: Head Coach-Roger Kish NDSU Hall of Fame Bison Family & Friends, Luncheon Welcome to those who are new to our Bison Family and thank you to those who continue to follow, support and believe in our program and these young Friday, September 21 men. The 2018-19 season is upon us and we are very excited to get going in October. What an exciting time for our student-athletes to show the @ Nodak Insurance Basketball improvements they’ve made over the summer months; as well as give you a first Performace Center/Sanford look at the freshman class and the future of Bison Wrestling. Health Athletic Complex at 11:30 am I want to encourage you to look over the 2018-19 varsity schedule and note the challenges that I have set for this young team. Highlighted for this season is the home schedule. We have eight home duals along with our annual Bison _______ Open. Our staff has worked exceptionally hard to produce a schedule that will allow this squad to become battle tested in preparation for Big 12 and NCAA Kris Nelson Hall of Fame tournaments. Social In addition to the excitement surrounding this season, we are eager to share what has been happening on the recruiting trail. This coaching staff has been Friday, September 21 working extremely hard in our recruiting efforts, and come November 7th our early signee’s will be revealed. @ Herd & Horns 5:00 pm Again, I want to thank you all for the continued support given to Bison Wrestling. We will continue to challenge these young men on the mats, as well _______ as in the classroom, and will set the expectations high in every other area of their lives. We, as coaches, have high hopes for this upcoming season and if our preseason has shown us anything you can expect this team to come out NDSU Homecoming fighting! Saturday, September 22 I hope to see you at our first dual competition against Northwestern November 4th, followed by Northern Illinois on November 8th. Once again we will be hosting the Bison Open November 10th. Hope you have your season tickets as @ Fargo Dome 1:00 pm we have also incorporated mat-side seating which will help generate some energy around our home events. See you all this season. Go Bison! BISON WRESTLING CLUB REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER NEWSLETTER Issue 11 7632 NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2018 KRIS NELSON NDSU BISON WRESTLER 1996-2000 2000 NCAA CHAMPION 133 POUNDS 2000 NCAA OUTSTANDING WRESTLER THREE-TIME NCAA ALL-AMERICAN TWO-TIME NCC CHAMPION The Bison Athletic Hall of Fame has selected Kris Nelson as part of its 47th class enshrined into this prestigious group of individuals. The Lisbon, North Dakota native becomes the 25th NDSU wrestler to be inducted. Nelson won the 2000 NCAA Division II National Championship at 133 pounds in his senior season along with being awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament. Those accolades go alongside two other All-American finishes in 1998 and 1999. Along w ith his All-American status, Nelson won the 1999 and 2000 North Central Conference tournament and contributed to the Bison winning NCAA titles in 1998 and 2000. Nelson also helped NDSU to the 1998 North Central Conference team title as well. At the conclusion of his athletic career Kris Nelson went straight into the coaching world, staying close with the sport as well as staying close to NDSU. He was the student assistant at NDSU in 2001 and 2002 and graduate assistant in 2003 and 2004 which lead to him becoming a full-time assistant coach for the Bison in 2005-2009. During his time at NDSU Nelson coached 25 All-Americans and seven NCAA Champions. Nelson is currently in his 10th season as Head Coach of the Minnesota State -Moorhead wrestling team. During his time at MSUM Nelson has coached five All-Americans and one NCAA Finalist. He resides in Fargo, North Dakota with his wife Jennifer and their dog Crosby. BISON WRESTLING CLUB REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER 5 NEWSLETTER | Issue 11 BISON WRESTLING CLUB 10TH ANNUAL BUCKY MAUGHAN GOLF SCRAMBLE AUGUST 25TH; MEADOWS GOLF COURSE The 10th Annual Bucky Maughan Golf Scramble saw 104 golfers in attendance; with the likes of multiple alumni, fans, and community stakeholders. The Bison Wrestling Club wants to thank everyone who attended; along with all of our sponsorships and donations that were used to help organize the event. Hutchison will work with the upper weight divisions. Hutchison, a native of Buchanan, Michigan, recently completed a four-year career at Eastern Michigan University that included three NCAA tournament appearances and 94 wins. He was a two-time Mid-America Conference runner-up at heavyweight for the Eagles. Hutchison compiled a 94-59 record including 28 pins at Eastern Michigan. He went 39-21 in duals including 18-13 in the MAC. One of his career highlights was placing fourth at the 2017 Midlands Championships. He reeled off six straight wins at the Midlands including four over nationally-ranked opponents and a career best 10-second pin. A two-sport athlete at Buchanan High School, Hutchison was a two-time undefeated state champion including a 56-0 record with 40 pins as a senior. He was also a four-time all-conference performer in Michigan. Hutchison graduated from Eastern Michigan in May 2018 with a bachelor's degree in sport management. Once can go to our website and click on the “Become a NDSU Dept. 1200 Member” tab and select which membership you need based off the number of tickets you would like to request.
