The Giving Tree The Social of Greenwood is launching a new endeavor, designed to help sustain our mission of enhancing the lives of those 50 and beyond in our community. The Giving Tree will be a commemo- rative wall in our front lobby, which will offer our members the ability to support The Social and create an enduring memorial. We are offering members and friends of The Social of Greenwood the opportunity to give a lasting gift by purchasing an engraved leaf, dove or star – these will be installed in the lobby of our building. Every person who enters the Center will have the chance to read the names of our caring supporters on our Giving Tree. Currently, a paper mock-up of The Giving Tree is in our lobby, but in June and July it will be replaced with a permanent wall dedicated to our members and supporters. $200 donor - Silver Leaf, $250 donor - Gold Leaf, $350 donor - Memorial Dove, $500 - $750 - Supporter Level 1 Star, $1000 or more - Supporter Level 2 star, this includes engraving with 20-23 characters and spaces per line and up to 3 lines included. Wednesday Movie Matinee Wednesday, June 24th Time: 2:15pm (NEW TIME) Cost: $1.00 For June, we will be showing McFarland USA. In this inspiring Disney sports drama based on ac- tual events, Kevin Costner plays a high-school football coach who ends up leading a cross-country track team made up of lower-class Latino students to a state championship. Jim White (Costner) finds his days as a football coach numbered when an incident with a player leads to his dismissal. Desperate for work, he moves his wife (Maria Bello) and daughters from Idaho to McFarland, CA, a rural town that’s predominately Latino and the only place willing to give him a teaching job. The family feel like they don’t fit into their new community, but White has an epiphany one day when he sees his students running from their early-morning farming jobs to school: Why not channel their talents into running cross-country track? Soon enough, White is connecting with his young charges, particularly a gifted athlete named Thomas (Carlos Pratts), and the squad set their sights on a state championship. Popcorn and refreshments will be on sale.
