View from the Pew February 2011 I have been asked to write a short article for the regular slot headed “View from the Rectory”. From the humble position Uffcott where I “sit”, I felt this should be headed as above!

I mentioned last month that in spite of the vacancy and the Broad need to recruit a Priest in Charge, we do in the meantime Hinton Upper have continuity of the wider Church in our local community, Winterbourne over and above maintaining what has become the regular Berwick Bassett Bassett Kennet pattern of services. This is thanks to the Churchwardens and members of PCCs, Gill and Keith and to Anne and Ray in Winterbourne the Benefice Office. All of them, behind the scenes, are Monkton News looking after the wider calls on the Church from within our community. Theirs is a wonderful combined effort. What they do week in week out goes on “unsung” largely without Beckhampton being noticed, because what they do is so well done. We Avebury would soon notice if the norm was not maintained! Whether Fyfield regular churchgoers or not, we owe them a great deal. West Kennett I am pleased to say that the recruitment process is under Lockeridge way, the vacancy having now been advertised and hopefully West Overton enquiries and applications being made. To support the East Kennett recruitment a Profile has been prepared, setting out what we have to offer a priest and what we would like a priest to be able to do in the community. Produced by Sally Cartwright, BERWICK BASSETT to FYFIELD Graham Kitchen and Martin Knight, it really is top quality Edition with interesting notes on the different villages, churches and schools beyond simply ecclesiastical information. Upper Kennet Churches I have to say it is a very good read with great photographs and a useful local source of reference. Contact the Benefice Notice Board: Wedding Office if you want an email copy.
