Liberty Flames Basketball 79 Opponents

For the first time Liberty University will participate in the annual ESPN BracketBuster event, a two-day men’s college basketball extravaganza pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other on February 16-17. For the second consecutive year, the event will feature five BracketBusters games exclu- sively on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, and two on ESPN360, ESPN’s cus- tomized broadband service. ESPN2 will televise six contests. The 13 televised BracketBusters matchups will be announced January 29, while game times and network 2007 NCAA TOURNAMENT SITES assignments will be announced February 5. BracketBusters, so named because of the success of the participating teams in NCAA NCAA Selection Show, March 11 Tournament play over the past few years, will provide the 26 televised teams an opportunity to play other top non-conference opponents three weeks prior to Selection Sunday. The 76 teams not selected for BracketBusters will compete against each other over the same two days. NCAA Opening Round, March 13 The 102-team field will feature 12 teams from the Mid-American Conference and Colonial Athletic; 11 from the Ohio Valley Conference; 10 from the Missouri Valley and University of Dayton Arena, Dayton, Ohio Metro Atlantic Athletic; nine from the Western Athletic Conference and ; eight from the Big West; four from the Big Sky and Southern; three from the Big South and Patriot; two from the America East, Mid-Continent and Southland; and San Francisco from the West Coast Conference. NCAA First/Second Rounds, Liberty joins fellow Big South members Winthrop and Coastal Carolina in the BracketBuster field. The Big South went 2-1 last year in the BracketBusters, its first-ever March 15 and 17 involvement in the event. Winthrop defeated MAC member Northern Illinois in double over- time, 98-97, while UNC Asheville won at OVC member Eastern Kentucky, 83-77. High HSBC Arena, Buffalo, N.Y. Point fell in the closing minutes at MAAC member Loyola (Md.), 77-71. In this year’s Rupp Arena, Lexington, Ky. series, Coastal Carolina has drawn a home game while Winthrop and Liberty will play road contests. ARCO Arena, Sacramento, Calif.
