Highlights of the August 8, 2017, Board of Trustees Meeting

Introduction of New On behalf of the Board of Trustees, President Montoya welcomed and Student Board Member administered the oath of office to senior Maya Chen, the 2017/18 Student Board Member. Maya was presented with a Board of Trustees pin and business cards. Maya introduced her parents, Marsha and George Chen.

The role of the non-voting Student Board Member is to represent all District students, provide leadership to SAC members, and furnish input on student issues to the Board of Trustees. The Student Board Member is selected by the previous year's SAC, which is composed of representatives from each of the District's schools.

Introduction of New Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Atkinson introduced the Administrators following new campus administrators:

Jon Shaw, BPHS Assistant Principal Instruction and Operations Sarah Murrietta, SHHS Assistant Principal Student Services Carolyn Llewellyn, TRHS Assistant Principal Student Services

2017/18 Fiscal Year 45-Day Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Joan Velasco presented the Budget Update 2017/18 Budget Report (45 Day Revision), which includes changes or revisions to the budget.

Ms. Velasco reported on two major items: 1. The Governor signed into law that school districts will receive one-time monies. The amount the District will receive is $1.9 million, which will go into the unrestricted General Fund. 2. The District had a difference in assignments from when the adopted budget was first brought to the Board. Originally, $6,000,000 was assigned for turf replacement. Ms. Velasco reported that a $650,000 expense transfer was done instead, thereby removing that assignment from the ending fund balance. Ms. Velasco stated that the transfer amount will be reviewed every year by the Board and could potentially change.

Requisite changes will be made to the budget and will be included in the 2017/18 First Interim Report, which covers the period of July 1, 2017, through October 31, 2017. The First Interim Report will be presented to Board Members at the December 12, 2017, Board meeting.
