OUR STRONGEST ROSTER EVER Welcome to the 2012 Vinery Stud Stallion Brochure, featuring arguably the strongest stallion roster ever to stand at Vinery. It is a measure of our strategic planning over many years that we can proudly boast the perfect balance of proven sires together with several exciting young stallions which will drive the farm’s success well into the future. There have been many achievements on and off the racetrack which have contributed to the Vinery brand going from strength to strength. The Vinery team shares the common goal of meeting our clients’ every requirement, ensuring our ongoing mutual success. Heading the 2012 roster is the all-conquering More Than Ready, sire of the champion mare More Joyous and Blue Diamond winner Samaready. Added to his Gr.1 winners this year in the US and South Africa, More Than Ready also sired an amazing fi ve of the sixteen runners in this year’s Golden Slipper, which is a testament to what a world class stallion he really is. Not to be outdone, fl ying the fl ag for Australia in Dubai was Testa Rossa, with his brilliant daughter Ortensia winning the Gr.1 Al Quoz Sprint while Mossman’s daughter Ofcourseican was the winner of this year’s Gr.1 Coolmore Classic. Looking to the future, we have the much-touted Myboycharlie whose fi rst crop of yearlings is already generating great reports from trainers. The handsome son of Red Ransom, Onemorenomore, will have yearlings in 2012 after receiving excellent books of the highest quality mares, no doubt proving himself to be a real force in the market next year. Another of our bluebloods with fi rst Australian yearlings this year is the mighty Big Brown. A true recognition of the quality of his stock, Coolmore’s well-known horseman Demi O’Byrne paid US$1.3million for a Big Brown colt at this year’s Florida Breeze-up Sales. We await with great anticipation the fi rst Australian-bred foals of Congrats, the 2010 Champion Freshman Sire of USA. From his dominant good looks it’s easy to see how Congrats upgrades his mares to produce so many good runners. We are delighted to have the brilliant juvenile Pluck as our new stallion for 2012. This exciting son of More Than Ready produced the most breathtaking fi nish in Breeders’ Cup Juvenile history to win the race in emphatic style. Pluck is a magnifi cent type with great depth of pedigree and an extraordinary turn of foot, the most important elements we look for in any potential stallion. Disappointingly, an injury as a three year old prevented Pluck from racing on and travelling to Europe for the classics as planned. It is also with great pleasure that I personally welcome Neil Werret as a partner at Vinery Stud. Neil, like so many others, has been a great supporter of Vinery and we look forward to a long working relationship together. Finally, let me take this opportunity to thank our existing clients for their continued support and extend an invitation to all other breeders wishing to join us in 2012 and beyond. Clockwise from top of page: More Joyous wins the Doncaster With Kind Regards Hcp. Myboycharlie’s brilliant 1st Peter Orton crop. Ortensia fl ies the fl ag for Testa in Dubai. Onemorenomore foals hit the ground running. Pluck joins the Vinery Roster. BIG BROWN 2005, 16.1HH. Boundary – Mien (By Nureyev) Renowned the world over as the best 3yo of his generation, Big Brown was also an exceptionally brilliant two year old. • Qatar Goodwood Festival
Your complete guide to the QATAR GOODWOOD FESTIVAL Presented with the compliments of Introduction Welcome to the 2018 Qatar Goodwood Festival magazine presented by Timeform, which features previews and tips for all of the big races at the track this week. Staying events have always been a prominent feature of British Flat racing which, unlike some jurisdictions, offers a rich variety in the distances of races in the calendar. Much has been said over the years about the need to protect—and enhance—the programme of staying races in Britain, so when Weatherbys Hamilton announced earlier this year that a new bonus scheme for stayers worth £1 million was to be introduced this season, it was well received. The WH Stayers’ Million is on offer to any horse that wins one of four races in May—the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot, the Ormonde Stakes at Chester, the Yorkshire Cup at York or the Henry II Stakes at Sandown— before going on to claim victory in each of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, the Goodwood Cup and the Lonsdale Cup at York. The bonus prize has come along at just the right time for connections of last year’s Goodwood Cup winner Stradivarius, who is a short-priced favourite to retain his crown and move one step closer to landing the inaugural WH Stayers’ Million, having won the Yorkshire Cup and Gold Cup in his two previous starts this season. He will be without the services of regular pilot Frankie Dettori in the feature race on Tuesday, but Andrea Atzeni is an able deputy, having won both the Queen’s Vase and this race on him last season, and everything looks set fair for another big run.
