STEWARDS :- Nathalia Young Farmers What is it? A chance for young people to express their view on a given subject, highlight their talents, creativity and ingenuity and be part of their Local show. Who can enter? Rural Ambassador: Adults aged 20 years and under 30 years as of the 1st of May of the year of the state final. May be married or single. Junior Ambassador: Young adults aged between 16 years and under 20 years as of the 1st of May of the year of the state final. How do I enter? Contact Ellen Grinter on 0447529878 or email [email protected] All applicants must prepare a a short 1 page resume, including schooling, work experience, community work, interests and Agricultural Show involvement if applicable. Entry must be received by 17th June 2016. On judging night, there is a short interview with the judges. All participants then present a 2 to 3 minute speech on the following topic. “ Give a 2 to 3 minute talk on “Your Passion” The topic can be whatever you would like to make it, it could be your hobby, job, last holiday, and author, sport, a book your loved. Anything your are passionate about.

When will it be held? Judging for both awards will take place on Friday, 24th June, at the Guide Hall, Weir Street, Nathalia. 6.30pm Supper included. Dress Smart tailored clothing. Judging criteria: Junior and Rural Entrants will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines :- Community involvement 25 points General and Rural knowledge 25 points Ambitions/Goals 20 points Communication Skills 20 points Grooming & Confidence 10 points TOTAL 100 points Winners go on to represent their Agricultural Society at the Regional Final on 22nd April 2017 to be held in Shepparton. Regional winners represent GVRSA at the state finals: (JA) Saturday 1st, July 2017 Shepparton (RA) at the Royal Melbourne Show in 2017.

VASLTD Cookery Section REGULATIONS: FOR VASLTD FRUIT CAKE AND BOILED FRUIT CAKE COMPETITIONS ON PAGE 11  An exhibitor having won at a show, will bake another cake for entry in the Group final.  The Winner will then be required to bake a further cake for the State Final at the next Royal Melbourne Show.  An exhibitor having won at show level is not eligible to enter any other show until after the Group judging, when, if not the winning entry, can complete further.  An exhibitor is only eligible to represent one Group in the State Final.  An exhibitor having won at the Group Level cannot compete further until after the Royal Melbourne Show.  Each cake entered must be the bonafide work of the exhibitor.  If for any reason a winner is unable to compete at the Group or State Level the Second place getter is eligible to compete.

TO RECIPE Ingredients: 250g sultanas, 250g chopped raisins, 250g currants, 125g chopped mixed peel, 90g chopped red glaze cherries 90g chopped blanched almonds, 250g butter, 60g self raising flour, 250g plain flour, 250g soft brown sugar, 4 eggs ½ teaspoon lemon essence or finely grated lemon rind, ½ teaspoon almond essence, ½ teaspoon vanilla essence, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ½ teaspoon ground cloves, ⅓ cup of sherry or brandy.

Here’s what to do…. Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flour and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixes. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin 20cm (8″) square tin without rounded edges and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½ – 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. NOTE: to ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4 to 6 pieces and almonds cross–wise into 3 to 4 pieces.

JUNIOR BOILED FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION - JUNIOR SECTION CLASS 26 PAGE 11 PRIZES: V.A.S.L. will conduct a Group final, the winner of which will compete in the State Final at the following Royal Melbourne Show. Finalists are required to bake a third ‘Fruit cake’ for the State Final Judging at the Royal Melbourne Show, for which prize money will be:- LOCAL - 1st $10.00. 2nd $ 5.00. 1 st - $95.00, 2nd $70.00, 3rd $30.00, Entrants must be Under 18 on the day of local show. The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants. Ingredients:1 teaspoon mixed spice, ½ cup of water, 125g butter, 1 cup of plain flour, ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, ½ cup of sherry, 2 eggs lightly beaten, 2 tablespoons of marmalade, 1 cup of self raising flour, ¼ teaspoon salt. 375g Mixed Fruit, ¾ cup of brown sugar. Here is what to do…Place the mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter into a large saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer gently for three minutes, then remove from stove, add bicarb soda and allow to cool. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients then place in a greased and lined 20cm (8″) square tin without rounded corners. Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1½ hours, or until cooked when tested.

MENS ONLY CARROT SLICE RECIPE - OPEN CLASS 22 ON PAGE 11 TO RECIPE Ingredients: 165gms Brown Sugar, 175ml Sunflower oil, 3 eggs lightly beaten, 1 carrot (approx. 140gms) grated, 100gms Raisins Zest of one large orange, 175gms self-raising flour, 1tsp bicarb of soda, 1tsp ground cinnamon,½ tsp grated nutmeg, 55gms of icing sugar - optional Here’s what to do Preheat oven to 180°, grease and line an 18cmx28cm slice tin Use a wooden spoon to mix sugar, oil and egg, in a large bowl and then stir in carrots, raisins and zest. Stir in flour, soda and spices. Stir to just combined and pour into pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. Cool slightly and then turn out onto a rack until completely cold. Icing: use a small amount of water to make a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over slice. When icing has set completely cut into 12 equal slices.

CARROT CAKE RECIPE - OPEN CLASS 24 ON PAGE 11 TO RECIPE Ingredients: Olive Oil - to grease, 350gms carrots, 1 cup (150gms) of SR Flour, ½ cup (75gms) plain flour, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ½ cup (80gms) brown sugar, ½ cup (125mls) oil, ½ cup (125mls) golden syrup, 3 eggs, 1tsp vanilla essence, ½ cup walnuts. Here is what to do…. Preheat oven to 170° C. Grease a 20cm (base) round cake pan lightly with oil, and line with a non stick baking paper. Peel and grate the carrots, and set aside. Sift the flours, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon into a large bowl. Put the brown sugar, oil, golden syrup, eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl. Use a balloon whisk to mix until combined. Pour the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Use a wooden spoon to stir gently until just combined. Stir in the grated carrot and walnuts. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 1 hour. Set aside for 5 mins, before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

TO RECIPE Ingredients: 2½ cups Self–raising flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar, ⅓ cup of pitted dates, 1 tablespoon orange marmalade, 1 cup of coarsely grated carrots, 1 cup of canola oil, 2 eggs - lightly beaten, ¾ cup of orange juice, 1 cup reduced fat milk, Icing sugar for dusting. Here’s what to do…. Preheat oven to 190C (moderately hot), Line and spray a 12 hole muffin pan with large paper cases. Sift dry ingredi- ents into a large bowl, stir in dates, carrots. Then add combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice and milk. Mix until just combined. Spoon mixture evenly into prepared pan holes. Cook for 20 minutes, to test muffins are cooked insert a cake skewer, If it comes out clean the muffins are ready. Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes, then turn out on to a wire rack to cool.

REGULATIONS 1. It is a condition of entry that exhibitors and competitors undertake to comply with the following regulations. 2. All general entries must be made in writing, on forms supplied by the Society, and signed by or on behalf of the exhibitor and delivered to the Secretary on or before the specified closing dates. NO LATE ENTRIES. POST ENTRIES 3. EXCEPTED. 4. The Society shall have the right to reject any entry without having to give reason for doing so. Each exhibit must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor at the time of entry. 5. All exhibits must be entered in the name of the owner, who, on making the entry, will receive a ticket with the section, class and number thereon. 6. All machinery in motion shall be either securely fenced or be in such a position or of such construction as to be equally safe to every person as it would be if it were securely fenced. 7. All exhibits must be in the Showground's, and placed ready for judging at the time shown at head of each section. 8. The judge may award a second or third prize instead of a first one, or may withhold a prize altogether where the exhibits are not of sufficient merit. Any exhibit not classified which may be brought forward may receive a prize or certificate of merit as an extra if considered worthy. 9. All exhibitors shall permit the Stewards to affix their prize cards notifying the awards of the judges, and shall permit same to remain affixed during the continuance of the show. 10. STEWARDS: Should a Steward happen to be an exhibitor in any class in which he is a steward, he must stand aside during the judging of such class and take no part whatever in it. Stewards are requested to observe this rule. 11. No Judge shall officiate in any section in which he is exhibiting. 12. The Society may withhold any prize when fraudulent or erroneous statements have been made regarding an exhibit, and may also withhold all prizes awarded to exhibitors who have been guilty of false statements of entries. They may be debarred from again exhibiting, and, if patrons, shall be liable to expulsion from the Society. Exhibitors may be required to make a statutory declaration regarding their entries if the Society so desires. 13. The decisions of the Judges shall be final and without appeal at law or otherwise, and any exhibitor speaking or acting offensively to a Judge or Official may be disqualified, and is liable to have all prizes forfeited. Entries are received subject to this Regulation. 14. Should any exhibit, having gained a prize, be disqualified, the next on the list does not necessarily obtain the same prize. The Society, with or without the assistance of a Judge, can decide the question. 15. The Society shall not be responsible for exhibits. All exhibits left in the Society's grounds for a period of one month shall be sold by the Society to defray expenses. 16. No appeal against the decision of the judges will be entertained unless same be made in writing, and lodged with the Secretary within 30 minute of the event, and a deposit of $25 be made, which will be forfeited if the Society considers the appeal too frivolous. In the event of a protest being received, the same will be considered by a disputes committee and its decision shall be final. 17. In case of dispute as to the construction of these Regulations or the meaning of anything in the prize list, the same shall be determined by the Society, whose decisions in all cases shall be final. 18. Ages of horses to date from August 1st: sheep from April 1st: cattle as stated in cattle section. 19. Prize cards or Ribbons won at other shows must not be exhibited on any exhibit in the exhibition, or placed on pens where stock are housed. 20. The exhibitor accepts all responsibility for any damage or injury to any person or property, which may be occasioned by or arise out of the use of any machinery, implement or apparatus of any nature whatsoever used in connection with the Stand and Hereby indemnifies the Nathalia Agricultural Society accordingly. 21. Water is available on the Society's ground, but exhibitors of stock will be required to find their own forage. 22. In awarding the Championship, unless otherwise stated, the first prize winner of the relative sex in each class of the relative subsection shall be eligible to compete. 23. In awarding the Reserve Championship, unless otherwise stated, the first prize winner of the relative sex in each class of the relative subsection, other than the exhibit to which the championship has been awarded, shall be eligible to compete, together with the second prize winner, in the class on which the Champion was awarded first prizes not honored by the sponsor of any event. 24. The privilege of distributing Trade list advertising or other documents is restricted exclusively to exhibitors at their respec- tive stands. 25. Prize money will not be paid until after the Grand Parade, and only on presentation of a Grand Parade Pass with the prize money vouchers. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. 26. Prize winners are requested to hand money vouchers in at the Secretary's Office for payment, after collecting their exhibits. 27. All prize money not collected on Show Day will be forfeited. 28. Any infringement of these rules will disqualify exhibitors from taking any prize awarded to them, and from exhibiting in the future. 29. The Society shall not under any circumstances hold itself responsible for any loss or misdelivery of livestock or other exhibits at the Society's exhibition or any loss or damage thereto. 30. Livestock to be tethered securely at all times except during Judging and the Grand Parade when they must be securely tied and held while being led. Any damage or injury to any person or property by loose animals to be the owners responsibility. 31. Owners to have their own Insurance cover for loss or damage of animals and any damage they may cause. 32. The Society will not be responsible for any prizes not honored by the sponsor of any event. 36

Any rider under the age of 18 years, riding a horse at an EFA or affiliated event, must wear protec- tive head gear to the current Australia, European or American Standard. The retaining harness must be secured and fastened at all times. Riders without approved headgear shall be ineligible to compete until rectified. This rule applies to all events, not just under age competition.

Entries close 10 minutes before each Jumping Event. All riders must present their Entry Ticket/s to the Marshal for Jumping, BEFORE they walk the course, to be included in the Draw for each Event. Corry ADDITIONAL RULINGS: Prize money will not be paid until after the Grand Parade and only on the presentation of a Grand Parade Pass with prize money vouchers. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Competitors not parading will forfeit their prize winning and championship award performances and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria will be notified of any infringements made in respect to Parades.

All competitors compete at their own risk - the Society will not be liable for any injuries or damages sustained during any events. Payment of the entry fee is considered to be acceptance to these rules. Open rings will be conducted under EFA Rules and Regulations, Entering this competition constitutes acknowledgement that EFA (nowEV/AV) rules apply and acceptance of these rules. The organising committee reserves the right to cancel, divide alter or refuse entry to any class with or without stating the reason. No waiting in the rings – there are three open rings No refunds on unused tickets. Novice Horse /Galloway/ Pony - While competing singularly has never been placed 1st in a similar class at any Agricultural Show or Gymkhana. Novice winners are eligible for their relevant height championship. Show Hunters are quality animals showing a little more substance and boldness of movement than is required for show horses. Show Hunter attire plain browbands, no ribbons, Hunter Jackets. Show Hunters are not eligible to compete in open ridden classes. Once a ridden horse has won a Champion in a ring it is not eligible to compete in its height class in another ring. Height certificates must be produced if requested.

Good Hands Challenge Trophy– Additional Rules and Regulations at local Shows. The VAS Good Hands Challenge is conducted at the VAS Saddle Horse Championships. It is open to boys and girls aged 10 years and under 15 years on the day of the local show. The competition is judged solely on their ridding ability, mount, saddlery or costumes will not be taken into account. Special attention will be paid to hands and seat, general management and control of the horse or pony. Competitiors must ride using an ordinary snaf- fle, single jointed in the center. The mouthpiece must be smooth and made of the same type of metal with or without a cavesson on the noseband. A gear check may take place. Please note:- straight bar snaffle, drop nosebands, whips and spurs are not allowed.

Off The Track OTT Open to all thoroughbreds, unraced or raced, 4 years and over, over 14.2hh who are registered with RISA. Registrations will be check. Racing name to be used where appropriate.
