Sport Page 20 2020 Peter Janson Speed Event Championship Shield won by Ron Gallagher of Forster

The Peter Janson Speed Event is named after Privateer Racer Peter Janson. Janson was a driver who accumulated 13 Bathurst podiums throughout his racing career. The shield itself was donated by “Captain” Peter Janson who was a guest speaker at the Bathurst Light Car Club (BLCC) annual dinner way back in 1983. The Shield is decided by a number of class set racing events (outside of the BLCC events) throughout the year, in which valuable points are accumulated by club members. Members submit their registered results from these speed events which are held across NSW. The points are graded depending on the level of difficulty for each event. Above: Ron Gallagher on track in his number 170 Toyota 86.

Trail Blazers on the loose Over 12 months ago Trail Blazers was created for like-minded runners with the aim of enjoying our local bushland. It is an informal group that had humble beginnings with three members (Robyn Geelan, Alex Jiminez and David Hughes). Since then, the group has grown rapidly and now there are over 20 walkers and trail runners that attend regular trail runs on a Sunday morning. In the past, the Trail Blazers have enjoyed the serenity and quietness of Possum Brush, Old Bar, Whoota and Blackhead just to name a few. The group enjoys the flexibility of zero rules (apart from Leave No Trace) and the ability to carpool to the start line. Distances vary from 10km to 20km and not everyone will cover the entire distance on the day. Lately Trail Blazers have been meeting fortnightly at 6 am. All newcomers are welcome. The Trail Blazers use Messenger as their form of communication. Contact 1956huggy@ gmail.com if you wish to be added to this group. Dave Hughes Photo by Tracy Becroft.
