700 Citi Volunteers in Join Colleagues in 93 Countries to Celebrate Company’s Ninth Annual Global Community Day

This year’s number of participants is the highest in nine-year history of GCD

MOSCOW – On June 7th, over 700 volunteers – employees of Citi Russia, their families and friends, took part in the annual Global Community Day, which is a regular opportunity for Citi colleagues and other participants to join together and use their time to serve their cities. Citi’s Global Community Day is an important initiative designed to create lasting impacts on cities around the world and reinforce the idea that active corporate engagement is an essential component of a livable city.

This year we had the best attendance rate in Russia we have ever had for Global Community Day since this great tradition was set in 2006. In Russia volunteers were helping orphanages, nursing homes for elderly people, animal shelters, which they have patronized in terms of their regular volunteering, but the major focus this time was on green initiatives, as Citi global campaign on Global Community Day was held under the title “How I served my city”. Our volunteers were cleaning the territories and planting trees and flowers in major parks, botanic gardens and hospital recreation areas in all the 12 cities of Citi residence in Russia – , St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, , Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Ufa, Volgograd, Ryazan, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, and Kazan.

Marc Luet, CCO for Russia and CIS, Head of Citi in Central and Eastern Europe said: “Global Community Day is a day when we make a joint effort to support the communities we live in. I’m also happy to see the growing number of colleagues who volunteer on a regular basis throughout the year. It was my first Community day in Russia, and I was glad to join my team in the botanic garden of the Moscow State University “Aptekarsky Ogorod” in Moscow.”

Since its launch in 2006, more than 500,000 volunteers have participated in Citi Global Community Day activities, including around 3 500 people from Russia.
