COSTA RICA By VICKI DUNCAN and BOBBY FOWLER

“Pura Vida! Pure Life!” Costa Ricans (Ticos) use this to say hello, to say goodbye and say that everything is good, cool, and all is well. It is said several times a day, as in: How was your trip to the beach? Pura Vida. How was your dentist appointment? Pura Vida. How 1 was work today? Pura Vida. It pretty much sums up the attitude of Ticos who don’t stress about things as much as the rest of the world. Perhaps that is why this Central American country has been 2 named one of the happiest countries in the world. Although their lives are not always the easiest, they stay with an upbeat attitude and great faith. “Si Dios quiere” (if God wishes) is another much- used phrase and being buen educado (well-mannered) is an important per- sonality trait. All of this is part of why I have made around 25 trips to Costa Rica in the last 27 years. It is like going back to see family. Bobby and I visited this lovely coun- try again from mid-October through mid-November and we took a lot of photos.
