  • Kash Beauchamp Was Born Into Baseball. His Father Jim
Kash Beauchamp was born into baseball. His father Jim Beauchamp spent 50 years in professional baseball, playing 10 in the Major Leagues for five different teams, was Bobby Cox's bench coach for 9 years where the Atlanta Braves won 9 division titles, a world championship, and three pennants. Jim spent the remainder of his career with the Braves as the supervisor for minor league field operations until his passing on Christmas day in 2008. The experience of growing up in the game obviously impacted Kash Beauchamp's career. After a stellar high school career as a three sport athlete, Kash accepted a scholarship to Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he was immediately drafted as the first overall pick in the January, 1982 Major League Baseball Draft ahead of such future stars as Kirby Puckett and Randy Meyers. Beauchamp began his pro career in Medicine Hat where he was a member of the 1982 Pioneer League Champion Medicine Hat Blue Jays. Kash garnered all-star honors after hitting .320 and playing terrific defense in center field. Beauchamp was promoted to the South Atlantic League in 1983 where he played on a star studded team that included, Cecil Fielder, Jose Mesa, Pat Borders, Fred McGriff and David Wells. In 1984 Beauchamp was again promoted to the Carolina League where while playing for the Kinston Blue Jays, he was the MVP of the Carolina League All-Star game by going 5-6 with two triples and a HR with 5 RBI. The same year Beauchamp was voted by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Outfielder and Outfielder with the Best Arm.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

  • 2005 Kansas City Royals = Lethargic, Boring Baseball Team Searching for an Identity
2005 Kansas City Royals = lethargic, boring baseball team searching for an identity 5. Kansas City Royals: Fans let me just put this bluntly: the Kansas City Royals are not going to make any noise in 2005. Hate to burst all you Royals fans’ bubble, but it just ain’t gonna happen. Not only does this team lack internal energy to win tilts in a 162-game season, but they also lack star power. Only one player on this team can legitimately say he’s a star caliber baseball player. Who is that? First baseman/designated hitter Mike Sweeney, a 32-year-old man with a .305 lifetime batting average. Although Sweeney has never hit 30+ homers in a season, he’s awfully productive on a daily basis when healthy on the baseball diamond. Key word there is healthy because KC’s DH has been plagued by neck and back injuries the last few years. In fact, his latest injury in August of 2004 landed him on the 15-day DL when Kansas City’s season was practically over. Are the Royals capable of finishing with a better mark than their 2004 record of 58-104? Sure - if Tony Peña can get this team to start off really well. Nothing is more important for a team with lower expectations than everyone else in their division than a fantastic April and/or May. I say that because teams like the Yankees, Braves, etc. do not care if they start off on the mediocre side of the ledger due to the fact they always seem to be in the hunt around September.

  • Ball Busters: How the IRS Should Tax Record-Setting Baseballs And
BALL BUSTERS: HOW THE IRS SHOULD TAX RECORD- SETTING BASEBALLS AND OTHER FOUND PROPERTY UNDER THE TREASURE TROVE REGULATION Andrew D. Appleby*† INTRODUCTION Currently, a vital debate has the country split in two—a debate that tears at the very fabric of America’s tradition and culture: how should the IRS tax the catcher of a record-setting baseball? This question has raised the ire of Congress, confounded the IRS, and riled up tax geeks across the country.1 There are two prevalent conflicting views on the proper tax treatment when someone catches a record-setting baseball and does not immediately return it. The view that comports with the tax code requires the taxpayer to recognize gain on the record-setting ball, for its fair market value, in the year the taxpayer acquires undisputed possession. The taxpayer-friendly view is to allow the taxpayer to defer tax on the record- setting ball until (and only if) the taxpayer sells it. When asked about the proper tax treatment of record-setting baseballs, IRS chief counsel Don Korb stated, “[p]lease, whatever you do, don’t ask me that question.”2 Aside from the fact that this issue involves taxing America’s pastime, taxing record-setting baseballs is important for two reasons. First, the principles behind taxing record-setting baseballs apply to all found property. Second, taxing record-setting baseballs is highly publicized, perhaps more than any other taxation issue. This issue reaches mainstream America and is largely on a level that the average taxpayer can comprehend. Thus, taxing record-setting baseballs is incredibly important for the IRS to maintain and manage taxpayer morale.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 10, 2015 INDIANS COMPLETE 2015 FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT CLEVELAND, OH - Information on Cleveland Indians 2015 First-Year Player Draft selections. Round 1 (#17 overall) LHP BRADY AIKEN AGE/DOB: 18, Aug. 16, 1996 High School: IMG Academy (FL) BATS/THROWS: L/L HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3/210 Aiken, 18, is a 2014 graduate of Cathedral Catholic High School (San Diego, CA), where he compiled a 7-0 record with a 1.06 ERA in 11 starts in his senior season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound lefty enrolled at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL in February 2015 as a postgraduate high school student after he and the Astros were unable to reach an agreement on a professional contract by the July 18, 2014 deadline. After making one appearance for the IMG Academy, Aiken underwent reconstructive left elbow surgery on March 26 in New York City (Dr. David Altchek) and is currently two and a half months post-op. Brady was a 2014 Perfect Game USA first Team All- American and led Team USA to the gold medal at the 18U World Cup in Taiwan in September 2013, including a win in the championship game vs. Japan (7.0IP, 1R, 10K). He was the fifth LHP selected first overall and the first since David Price (Tampa Bay) in 2007. From MLB.com on Aiken Comments: Aiken entered 2014 as the most polished high school pitcher available, then he saw his stuff improve and became the No. 1 overall pick by the Astros. The two sides agreed on a $6.5 million bonus, but the team became concerned about his elbow following a post-Draft physical and cut its offer to $5 million.
