April 9, 2017 of From the Desk of our Pastor the Lord’s Passion I pray you had a blessed week. Our journey through brings us to these final days – with the Sacred Triduum, “Three Days” which celebrate the Paschal Mystery of ’ life: His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. These days are the center of the We bring together liturgical year. We simply do not reenact historical events. Our liturgy celebrates them in ways that make them present today. The liturgy of these and welcome into days is one feast, each celebration opening to the next with the culmination at the Vigil as the high point. Then on Easter Sunday we are reminded why we celebrate Mass and worship the Lord throughout the year. our Catholic Holy Thursday: 7:30 p.m. Mass of the During this day, we ponder the meaning behind Jesus’ washing of his disciples’ feet, and we give Community a thanks for the gift of the Priesthood and the Eucharist instituted on that day. As a whole, the liturgy celebrates Christ’s love for us shown in the Eucharist and in the sacrifice at Calvary. In the richly diverse morning, we will bring the Sacred Oils blessed by our Bishop back to our church. At the end of the evening celebration (7:30 p.m. Mass of the Last Supper), we will carry the Blessed Sacrament to the chapel of repose where we will come to adore, ponder, meditate, and pray people to pray, to before the Eucharist, until 10:00 p.m. As a reminder, there is no 8:00 a.m. Mass on Thursday.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion In today’s processional Gospel from St. Matthew, we witness Jesus’ joyful and triumphant — yet humble — entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. The Jewish people are ecstatic, thinking He is a worldly king who will overthrow the harsh Roman rule. But their jubilation quickly turns when they realize Jesus’ kingdom is of another world. In St. Matthew’s Passion account, the people condemn Christ and the Romans crucify Him. Jesus sacrifices His life for the salvation of all souls. Christian stewards gratefully acknowledge this great gift by returning to the Lord a generous portion of their abundant blessings through the sacrifice of their time, God-given talents, and financial resources to build up His kingdom. Our parishes and schools always seek volunteers. Consider assisting at Mass as a Lector, an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, or an Altar Server, or by serving on the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council, Stewardship Commission, Evangelization Committee, or another committee. The opportunities to share your talents are limitless.
